After shaking hands, he asked, “What are you doing here? Is there something wrong with our reports? I mean, we still need to submit the final-”

“No,” I answered, interrupting him. “The summary reports are fine. In fact, they’re exactly what we’d been expecting when we contracted Jacobi Auditing to review the books.” He grinned like he was solely responsible for the outcome. “Crawford Industries is very satisfied with the work done by you and your team, Bryant.”

“Good, good,” he murmured, all proud. “Well, then…is there something that I can help you with?”

Before I could answer, the ding of the elevator sounded in the lobby, and Landry was walking out of it, her purse in hand, a big smile on her face. At least, she’dhada big smile on her face until she noticed Bryant talking with me. I almost chuckled because it was hard to blame her.

“Excuse me,” I said, not caring to waste anymore of my time on Bryant Stanton.

“Well, uhm-”

I left him talking to himself as I walked over to where Landry was scowling like life was just too disappointing to deal with. Again, the woman had the most horrible poker face ever, and if she didn’t want people reading her so easily, we were going to have to work on that.

“Hey, baby,” I greeted, leaning down to kiss her cheek.

“Hey,” she muttered before getting to the point. “What did Bryant want?”

I placed my hand on the small of her back to escort her towards the front door. “Nothing,” I answered. “He saw me, then assumed that I was here because something was wrong with the audit.”

“Hmm,” she huffed.

I held the door open for her, and as soon as we were outside, I wrapped my arm around her waist, pulled her close, then dropped a tender kiss on her lips. “Hey.”

Landry’s blue eyes twinkled. “You already said that.”

“Yeah, but now that we’renotinside the building that you work in, I thought a more proper hello was in order,” I told her, stepping back a bit and giving her some room.

“Well, while I appreciate you not mauling me at my place of business, is outside on the sidewalk any better?”

I laughed as I grabbed her hand, then threaded my fingers in hers. “Baby, you haven’t seen getting mauled.”

“So, what was this weekend, then?” she quipped as we started heading towards my town car.

“That was mestillbeing on my best behavior, so that I don’t run you off,” I told her.

Landry’s blue gaze looked up at me as I opened the car door for her. “I’m pretty sure that none of what you did to me this weekend could be considered gentlemanly.”

“That’s debatable,” I muttered.

She got into the car, but before I could shut the door, she said, “Just so you know, I’m not the kind of woman that needs to be respected in the bedroom, Mr. Crawford.”

“You’re fucking killing me, baby,” I groaned before shutting the door, wondering if she was open to skipping lunch, so that I could violate her some more in the backseat of my car.

After all, she did have that peanut butter sandwich with her.

Chapter 15

Landry~

If it was possible to be high without doing any drugs, then that was me right now. Even having a new audit coming up wasn’t enough to kill my Rush-Crawford-buzz. I felt like a teenager with her first boyfriend, which was stupid when you considered that I was thirty-six-freakin-years-old. Rush wasn’t my first anything at this point in my life, but he felt like it.

Lunch had been a nice surprise, and though Rush had been insistent about struggling to keep his hands off me, he had behaved like the perfect gentleman all throughout our meal. Knowing that I didn’t have that much time for lunch, Rush had opted for convenience over fancy, and he had even called ahead, so that our meals would be ready upon arrival. Now, while I didn’t mind waiting like normal folks, having Rush’s money and reputation fast track our lunch had been a perk that I could get used to.

Anyway, lunch had been perfect, and I was still riding high on cloud nine, knowing that he was coming by tonight after work. Rush knew that I was more comfortable at my place this early in our relationship, so until I got used to car service and penthouses, it’d be a while before I felt relaxed enough to spend the night at his place.

Placing my purse in my desk, my ass barely hit my chair when my desk phone rang. Looking at the name flashing at me from the console, I groaned. I knew damn well that Bryant didn’t care about whether I’d had a nice lunch or not. He was calling me to gossip about Rush, and my thoughts immediately went to my resumé, like it often did when I had to deal with Bryant Stanton.

Nevertheless, I answered the phone. “Hey, Bryant.”
