“Stop the car.”

“I’m not going — ”

“Aaron. I’m not letting someone else box up my work.”

“They’re not a moving company. They’re government agents.”

“No one is touching my stuff.”

“I know you're under a lot of stress, but do you have to fight me on everything?”

“Yes. Apparently I do. And what about the samples? You need my fingerprint to get to those and there’s no way anyone but me is transporting them. I’m not letting them out of my sight.”

“Well, you can relax because I was taking you to your lab first, anyway. I expected you to be there while they packed.”

“Oh. Then call and tell them to wait until I get there.”

“Why are you being so stubborn?”

“It has nothing to do with being stubborn. Why do you think I didn’t want anyone to know what I have?”

“Because it’s dangerous.”

“Exactly. And I don’t want to be responsible for giving the government more weapons.”

“Come on, Syd. The government is not trying to steal your work.”

“No? You know that for sure?”

“You watch too many movies.”

“Have you even confirmed that my research will be private at this new facility?”

“Your research will be secure from the prying eyes you think will be watching you, yes.”

“How can you be sure?”

“Now you’re being paranoid.”

“Am I? But if the Russians know about what I have, then it’s likely that the government does too. You don’t think they want to have a look at it?”

“I’m sure they do, but that’s not how these things work.”

She crossed her arms and looked out the window. “Just call them and tell them to wait.”

Aaron sighed out his frustration, then did as she asked. “Happy now?”

“As a matter of fact, yes, I am.”

Despite Aaron’s request for the opposite, Chris had given the agents the go-ahead to box up what they could, so when Sydney arrived, it was only the sensitive stuff that needed to be put in order.

“I thought Aaron told you to wait,” Sydney growled at Chris.

“I didn’t let them touch your office or the safe. You’ve got enough to do with the move. You don’t need to waste your time boxing up basic equipment.”

Sydney quickly acquiesced when she realized they were ready to move before lunch.
