“What about Biotech?”

“What about them?”

“You report to them, right?”

“Yeah, but Sydney and I agreed we would only tell them our progress related to the cancer treatment. They know we’ve had some problems, but they don’t know the degree of the side effects.”

“All right. If you think of anything, no matter how small, call me.” He set his card on Chris’s desk. “Thanks for your time.”

“I hope this doesn’t mean you don’t have any leads?”

“Nothing worth mentioning at the moment.”

“What about the Russian guy who kidnapped her? Sydney said you were going to talk to him today.”

“He’s dead. Looks like he killed himself.”

“What? When?”

“Just this afternoon.”

Chris rested his head in his hands. “I can’t believe it.”

“I’m sorry. I wish I had more to report, but we’ll get there.”

Chris stood and walked over to Aaron, speaking low. “Would you mind keeping me updated? I’m really worried about Syd. I’d like to know how the investigation is going.”

“Sure. I’ll tell you what I can.”

“Thanks. I really appreciate it.”

Aaron called Lewis on his way out to the car. “I need you to dig up some information on someone for me. His name is Theo Robinson. He was a student at the local university who worked with Sydney.”

“On it.”

“Also, I’d like to know who exactly went in and out of Popov’s room from the time he entered the hospital.”

“Sir?”

“I want to confirm that Popov did, in fact, kill himself. If anyone stands out. Let me know straight away.”

“But the doc — ”

“I know what the doctor said. You ever have a case where a murder was set up to look like a suicide?”

“No, sir.”

“Well, it happens. I want to confirm whether that’s what happened here.”

“Yes, sir.”

“And, Lewis.”

“Yes, sir?”

“I thought I told you to call me Pritchard.”
