“Yeah.”
Tony thought for a moment. “You mean me?”
“Yes.”
“And what is it you need me to do with her?”
“I need you to scare her. Get her off the case. She’s insistent that she wants to do it. I need to change her mind.”
“And you can’t tell her she’s off the case because…”
“Because it’s more trouble than it’s worth. If I tell her I won’t continue, then I’ve got to explain why.”
“I still don’t see the problem.”
“I don’t have an answer that will satisfy her.”
“So?”
“I need this to be Charlotte’s idea or I won’t hear the end of it from her or Maddy.”
“I don’t know. I don’t want anyone getting hurt.”
“That’s exactly why I’m asking for your help.”
“You’re sure you want to do this?”
“Yes.”
“Okay. I’ll do it.”
“Have you got a couple of guys you can use as bodyguards? Or do you want me to supply them?”
“No, I can cover it. How scared are we talking?”
“You’ll be able to tell. When she looks like she’ll never do anything like this again, that should do it.”
“If she’s as strong-willed as her sister, that could take some effort.”
“I’m sure you’re capable.”
“Of course I am. As long as you’re sure.”
“I already told you I am.”
“Okay. Consider it done.”
“Great. I’ll see you again soon then. And do me a favor.”
“I thought I already was.”
“You need to be prepared when you see Charlotte. Try not to look surprised.”
Tony laughed. “Tell me.”
“Tell you what?”
