“You okay?” Caleb’s warm body pressed against my back and he wrapped his arms around me. “That looked intense.”

“It was. But it had to happen.”

“But are you okay?” He lightly kissed my neck.

“Yeah.” I spun in his arms and gave him a quick hug. “Want to head out?”

“Sure.”

We untangled ourselves and made the rounds to say goodbye.

“Will you come by for dinner when you have some time off?” Mom asked after we’d finished.

“We’d love to,” Caleb said before I could.

She beamed and gave us both a big hug. “Fabulous. It was really great to meet you, Caleb.”

“You too.”

“You’d better disappear while the kids are distracted.” She motioned toward the door.

I nodded and took Caleb’s hand. He let me drag him out of the café.

“That was fun.” Caleb smiled.

“Hey, Gray?”

We turned toward the café door as it closed behind Jett.

“I just wanted to say thanks for the tip about the job,” he said.

“Yeah, no worries. Hopefully it works out for you.”

“It’s okay that I’m straight, right?”

I chuckled. “Yeah, that’s not an issue. Most of the staff is.”

“Shit. I didn’t mean it to come out like that.” He raked a hand through his expertly styled hair, somehow managing to make it look even better. “I didn’t know if it was an LGBT space or not. I didn’t want to assume anything.”

“It’s fine. We don’t really care about labels there. Just don’t be a dick and no one will have issues with who you’re attracted to.”

He smiled crookedly. “Awesome. Thanks again.” He hurried back into the café.

“New potential dancer?” Caleb slipped his hand in mine.

“Bartender. But you know what would be fun?”

“What?” he asked as we walked to his car.

“You should sign up for the event on Sunday.”

Biggs had partnered with the local humane society and we were holding an amateur night as a fundraiser. The tickets sold out only days after the show had been announced, and various businesses had donated prizes for the winners. I’d been pestering Caleb to sign up since I’d heard about it. I knew he’d never do it, but it was fun to bug him.

“You’re incorrigible.”

“What? You’re not working. And it’s for puppies. How can you say no to helpingpuppies?”

“Because not even puppies could make me get my ass up on stage.”
