“Okay.” We walk closer to the coffins, and he looks down at them.

“You were my everything once. You were the light in the dark. You two made me so happy, but that time has passed. I didn’t think I could love again, but I do. Kyla gave me that. She’s taking care of me now. You don’t have to worry about me. You don’t have to worry about anything anymore. Jenny, you’ll live on through Axel. I can see you in his eyes when he’s smiling at me. I know you’re in a better place now. One that can’t hurt. A piece of my heart will always be with the two of you, but the larger part will stay here with Kyla. I believe you sent her to me when I needed her most, and I appreciate that more than you could know. Rest in peace now. Rest in knowing everything has been taken care of.”

Tears fall down my cheeks as I listen to him talk to them. I couldn’t have said it better. I think he needed this. He needed the closure this burial brought him.

I slip my hand into his and squeeze as he does the same to mine. We stand like this for a long time before he finally steps back and pulls me with him. We walk over to where all the guys are waiting, and he fist-bumps most of them.

“Havin’ a party over at the clubhouse later. You need to come,” Declan says.

“I don’t know about that,” Jake tells him.

“I know. There’s a surprise you don’t wanna miss, brother. It’s gonna be good,” he tells him. I smirk, knowing what the surprise is.

“You in on this?” he asks me.

“Maybe.”

“Then I guess we have to go, don’t we?” Jake smiles, and my heart melts for him. He’s everything I could have ever wanted.

“Guess so. I mean, if you want to know the big surprise, you have to.”

“Alright. Let’s go then,” Jake says, lifting Axel in his arms and tossing him into the air. Axel laughs and squeals as Jake carries him back to the truck with me right behind them.

“You have secrets now, baby?” he asks me as he straps Axel into his seat.

“Just one.”

“Oh yeah? I thought we didn’t keep secrets.”

“I had to. The guys didn’t give me much choice in the matter,” I answer him. He laughs, and it’s the best sound I’ve heard in a while.

“I bet they didn’t. They can be stubborn as hell when they want to be.”

“So I’ve noticed.”

We both climb into the truck, but before Jake starts it, he turns to me.

“I just want to say thank you, Kyla. For being here. For being you. For being with me. I know I don’t make it easy on you sometimes. I get a little lost in my head, but you never left me.”

“And I don’t plan on it either, Jake. I love you. I don’t tell you that enough, but I love you.”

“I love you too. I didn’t think that was possible years ago. I didn’t think I knew what love could be anymore, and then you came back into my life. Now I can see it. I can see the love. I can feel it. I just need you to know how much you mean to me.”

“I don’t even know what to say. I love you, Jake.” He leans over and presses his lips to mine before pulling away. He turns back to the front and starts driving. My heart gallops in my chest as I think about his surprise. I don’t know if he’s going to be happy about it or not. The guys and girls at the clubhouse have helped me so much in getting it all ready for him.

The drive doesn’t take long, and we pull into the parking lot and park the truck. Jake looks over at me and smiles before climbing out and coming around to open my door. He helps me out before getting Axel out, and the three of us walk toward the door. When Jake opens it, the look on his face is priceless. His smile fades as he reads the sign and my heart nearly stops in my chest.

“What is this?” he asks as he looks between the sign and me.

“Read it.”

“I did.”

“And?”

“Are you serious?”

“Yeah. You’re going to be a daddy again.”
