“I hope so. I’m just glad I actually finished what I started. I did the one thing I said I wanted to do.”

“Yes, you did,” he agreed. “And I never doubted you for a minute.”

“Thank you,” I said.

“What’s the other surprise?” he asked.

Now, I was really nervous. I took his hand and led him into our bedroom. I was certain he was going to be happy about my surprise, but I was a little nervous. I picked up the small box with a red bow on it and handed it to him.

“You got me something?” he asked.

“More like you got me something.” I laughed nervously.

He opened the box and stared at the pregnancy test with a look of confusion. “What’s this?”

I took a deep breath, nervously fidgeting with my hands. “I’m pregnant,” I said softly.

For a few moments, there was silence. He looked at me, then back at the little stick in his hand, then back at me again. His eyes were searching mine, as if he was trying to read my thoughts. Finally, he spoke.

“Pregnant?” he repeated, his voice barely above a whisper.

I nodded, biting my lip nervously. “I know it’s a lot to take in. But I wanted to surprise you. I’m sorry if it’s not what you wanted.”

He put the box down on the nightstand and took a step toward me. “Not what I wanted?” he questioned, his voice incredulous. “Are you kidding me? This is the best news I’ve heard in months!”

I felt a huge wave of relief wash over me. “Really?” I squeaked, my voice shaking a little.

“Of course,” he said, pulling me into a tight embrace. “I’ve been wanting to start a family with you for so long. This is amazing.”

I grinned from ear to ear, tears of joy starting to prick at the corners of my eyes. “I’m so happy,” I whispered, leaning into his embrace.

We stayed like that for a few moments, just holding each other and reveling in the moment. Finally, he pulled away from me and picked up the box again, staring at the pregnancy test inside.

“I guess I really need to marry you sooner rather than later,” he said with a chuckle. “I don’t think we want a shotgun wedding. By shotgun, I mean your dad pointing a loaded pistol at my head demanding I do right by his little girl.”

“Yeah, I’m thinking we’re going to need to do it really fast,” I said.

“How pregnant are you?” he asked with confusion. “How are you pregnant? You’re on the pill. We’ve been going at it like bunnies for almost a year, why now?”

“Remember when we went to Miami?” I asked him.

“Yes.” He nodded. “That was three months ago.”

“Everything was so hectic, I missed a few pills,” I said. “Add in the fact I couldn’t keep you off me, my little eggs didn’t stand a chance against the onslaught of your swimmers.”

He grinned proudly. “They are fierce, but for the record, I remember you jumping me every time I turned around.”

I waved a hand. “Same thing.”

“So, what do we do now?” he asked, a smile forming on his lips.

“Well, we can start by telling our families,” I said, feeling a little giddy at the thought.

“After we’re married,” he corrected. “I’m not about to tell your dad I knocked you up before the wedding. He has been on my ass about marrying you since I gave you the ring.”

“We’ve been busy,” I said. “We didn’t think there was any need to rush things.”

“We were wrong,” he said. “Do you want to elope?”
