Page 13 of Reckless Abandon

All the lingering touches and flirting the past few weeks have just about killed me from low blood circulation to the upper part of my body. I love being at the Turners’ lake house. It's where most of our childhood memories were made… but so far, it has been slow torture this summer.

Seeing Sloan in her bikini all day—every day. Knowing she wants me… knowing I want her but shouldn’t.

T.O.R.T.U.R.E.

“Nah, we might go over to Eddie’s and grab a bite to eat once the sun goes down,” he says while watching Quinn’s bikini-clad ass lean over to Sloan, who is feeding her a bite of food.

“Damn so good,” Q groans. “Maybe we should eat here before we go,” she says with a smug look on her face.

“No, we don’t have much sunlight left,” Eli huffs, moving around to lightly push Quinn to the door.

“Chill E. You know I’m not going to miss the opportunity to show your ass up.” She chuckles, blows Lo a kiss, and out the door they go.

“Be safe, we’ll see you when you get back,” Sloan yells out after them.

Finishing off the last bite on my plate, I say, “Okay… Sloan’s sundae special, please?”

I love the big smile that spreads across her face. She’s stunning sitting here with no makeup and hair up in a messy bun. Her skin is tan from spending the last month on the water, making her bright blue eyes shine even more than normal.

“Hell yes… I think there’s only enough ice cream to make two anyway, so we better eat it before Maddie and the other two get back.”

Thankfully, her sister went to a friend’s house on the other side of the lake…just another reminder that we are finally alone.

Standing up, I take both of our empty plates to the dishwasher. Leaning back on the counter, I watch Sloan, something I’ve become a professional at.

Lo and Q have been making everyone these sundae concoctions since they were like twelve and decided they wanted to take up baking—but then Sloan learned real quick that unless the fire department was going to be on her personal payroll, she needed to stick to things that didn’t require the stove.

“You want Reese’s Pieces or Oreos on the top?” she questions.

Glaring at her, I don’t even have to say anything before she laughs. “Okay yes sir, both it is…”

“You should’ve known better than to ask such a silly question.”

“I know, I know, I was just checking,” she mumbles as she finishes making our desserts.

“Think fast,” she says, tossing a Reese’s piece in the air. Surprisingly, I catch it.

“Damn, you’re like a fly with that tongue.” She laughs, turning towards me with the two bowls in her hands.

“My tongue is pretty talented.” I grin smugly, reaching for my bowl.

Lo swallows and giggles nervously.

“Let’s go eat these out on the deck and watch the sunset?”

She nods happily. “Sounds perfect to me.”

“What’s goingon in that pretty little head of yours?” I ask Sloan as she stares out over the calm water, her legs slung over mine. One thing I love about being with her is not feeling the need to fill the void with conversation. But as we sit here with our bellies full, enjoying the sunset, I want to know exactly what she’s thinking.

“Honestly… I’m thinking about all the weird shit that’s probably at the bottom of the lake. Then my mind starts making up this whole story about a creature that swims around collecting lost sunglasses and bodies.”

Chuckling, I totally didn’t see that one coming. “What the actual fuck, Lo? Now I’m going to be on the lookout for this creature at all times.”

Reaching over, she tickles my side… taunting me. “No way, not the big bad Zeus. He can’t be scared.”

“True, I’ll just strike this lake creature with a lightning bolt and then all will be well. I can get back those Ray Bans I lost last year,” I say, gently rubbing the little jagged lightning bolt-shaped scar on her knee.
