Readjusting my stance while Quinn makes her way across the room, her eyes set on her intended target… me. I can't help the smile that's plastered on my face when I take in the complete shock and awe that is written all over hers.

“Oh my God, you're here. Like really here,” she screeches, then throws herself into my waiting arms.

Her intoxicating scent envelops me as we hold on to one another, and I bury my nose in the crook of her neck to get another hit. I could give a fuck if we dance or not tonight. All I care about is being here for my girl. One who wasn’t asked to prom by a single dumb fucker in this school. I certainly felt bad for her when she told me she was going solo, but being the protective asshole I am, I was also relieved. The idea of someone else's hands holding on to her tight ass as they danced made my blood boil. That thought solidified my plans to surprise her today. To be the knight in shining armor she reads about in those romance books her, Sloan, and Maddie are always gushing over. And by the gratuitous look on her face, I think I accomplished that goal.

“I’m always here for you,” I respond after she places a gentle kiss on my lips. I’m shocked by her open affection. Our families and friends all seem suspicious; however, we haven't exactly told anybody that we’ve been hooking up. Not that it's anyone’s business but our own.

Looking around, the room is too dark and too busy for prying eyes. So I grab the back of her neck and crush my lips to hers in a searing kiss, leaving us both panting and wanting more.

“If we don’t get on that dance floor soon, I'm going to fuck you right against this wall,” I growl while she continues to grind her body onto mine.

“Promise?” Quinn smirks, subtly dragging her fingers over my rock-hard cock, which is barely being contained behind my zipper. I groan when they cup me over my pants.

“Queenie…” I warn. I'm about five seconds from throwing her over my shoulder and finding the nearest room.

The familiar intro of Coldplay’s “A Sky Full of Stars” fills the room.

I feel like I'm in a damn movie right now. The way the lyrics match perfectly with my inner thoughts. How the spotlights twirl around us, illuminating our skin and our smiles. The crowd is forgotten once again when I notice the way she's looking at me. Like I’ve hung the moon for her.

I wouldn't trade this moment for anything in this world.

“I love this song,” she says.

“It's pretty damn perfect, isn't it,” I confess, listening to every lyric.

“It certainly is…” Quinn takes my hand in hers and pulls me off the wall.

“Come on, Hotshot, you owe me a dance.”

“I still can’t believeyou pulled it off,” Sloan says from beside me while we wait for the fire to ignite. The beach bonfire is a tradition for the seniors at Meadow Hills High School. After prom, everyone goes to the beach, staying up all night watching the sunrise together.

“Just barely,” I mutter before taking a sip of my beer. Watching Quinn across the way, she grabs us some drinks from the coolers and chats with one of her volleyball teammates.

“When I came back from the bathroom and saw her walking toward the dance floor with that wide smile... I already knew who was behind her. Only one person can put that look on her face.”

“Glad I was able to surprise her.”

“Me too… She needed it. I know she would never say it out loud, but she was disappointed no one asked her. Ugh, guys at this school are so lame. I mean, Quinn is frickin gorgeous.”

“Most guys are lame… You just tell me when I have to step in to set them straight.”

“Okay, mister big shot baseball player.”

“Ha! I wish. Maybe one day.”

“Who are you kidding? You’re like a celebrity here. Most guys here are practically drooling at the sight of you. I think some of them were even watching your game at prom.”

We both break out laughing because I know she's right. I’ve had my share of guys come up to me and congratulate me on my season at Penn State. We are officially going to the college world series, which is a pretty awesome achievement. The only downside is… I’ll miss Quinn and Lo’s graduation. As much as I try to be at everything I can be, there are times when baseball has to come first.

Several hours later, the girls are curled up in the bed of my truck, stargazing, and I excuse myself to get another drink.

Trekking through the sand, I make my way to the coolers. There’s a group of guys talking in camping chairs nearby. Some I recognize, others not so much. They're too busy chatting to notice me.

“Yeah, man, it was bad… I’m telling you, she was like a fish. I hit it and quit it, no reason to return to that.”

I continue sifting through the coolers, just listening to these jackasses, when something I overhear has my blood running cold.
