“Fuck, man, why’d you have to make it a game? Now we have to get in it. Eli won’t back down,” Wes chastises, running his hands over his face. He knows I can't resist, so we’re getting in this car, one way or another.

All of us pile in clown-car style. It's quite comical. All three of us are over 6’2”, so you could imagine what we look like to anyone passing by. Somehow, we manage to get in and close the doors. The driver turns in his seat and laughs at the sight of us tangled in the cramped back seat.

“You know one of you could’ve sat in the front… I would’ve moved my stuff.”

“Now you mention it,” Wes grumbles as the driver throws the car into drive and heads toward my house.

Getting out of the car was surprisingly easier than getting in. Thankfully, my house is quite secluded, so no spectators were able to witness our shitshow.

Parker is passed out on the couch within five minutes of getting through the door, and Wes has disappeared into one of the guest rooms. I leave Parker with a pillow and blanket and go to my room.

Stripping down to my boxers, I climb into bed. I’ve been dying to call Quinn all night, and now I finally can. It’s around one-thirty in the morning, but I know my little night owl is still awake. Pressing her number for FaceTime, I settle in, propping my phone so I can get a good look at her gorgeous face.

She answers after only two rings, and I smile when her grin lights up my screen.

“Hey, pretty thing,” I say.

“Geez, E, you can't answer the phone all half naked and shit.” She sighs, reclining on her bed. “How was your night? Did you and the guys have fun?”

“We definitely did… you should have seen us in the green clown mobile,” I say, trying not to burst into a laughing fit at the memory. Then I proceed to tell her all about our evening, from The Dugout to the Ford Fiesta. She cracks up at the image I paint in her head.

“Wish I was there to see that and, of course, your game, too. I know I said it before, but I'm so damn proud of you.”

“Thanks, babe. It really was surreal. The whole stadium cheering my name… I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to that.”

“Oh, sure you will, just don’t forget about us little folk.” She gives me puppy-dog eyes, and I roll mine with a chuckle.

“Ha! Like you’ll ever let that happen… Besides, I’d miss you too much.”

“Awe, E. You’re so cute sometimes.”

“Sometimes?”

“Yeah, sometimes you're tolerable.”

We both laugh. The way she pushes my buttons just to get a rise out of me. Her laugh is like music to my ears. A favorite melody that I never want to stop.

“Aah, I miss you, Queenie,” I say with a sigh.

“I miss you too, E. When are you back in New York?” she asks with a pout on her gorgeous lips.

“I think two weeks… or something like that. I cannot wait… Lakeside bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches are calling my name.” I almost moan at the thought of biting into one.

“Wow, okay. Here I thought you’d be looking forward to seeing me and your family. But I see how it is.”

Quinn knows she's right. This has been the longest stretch of time without seeing any of them. I miss them all like crazy, but this was the life I signed up for. I knew what I was getting myself into. Lucky for me, I'm only a short plane ride away and not somewhere on the West Coast like Sloan is.

“Yeah, yeah… I'm excited to see you all, too.”

She lets out a long yawn that then spreads to me through the phone. My girl is tired, even though she’d never admit it.

“I think I should get some sleep. I still have to entertain these two knuckleheads for the weekend… If you were here, at least I’d have someone to snuggle up with,” I say, speaking nothing but the truth. It sometimes scares me how often I crave her presence.

“You know I would’ve been there if I could.”

“I know, I know… College tests and all that,” I tease, which earns me a laugh.

“Love you, E! Can't wait to see you.”
