I let out a low whistle. “This is far from the red room Lucy was talking about.”

“Quite,” Jude replies. “I have to ask you something, and I don’t want you to get angry about it.”

“Okay,” I reply, drawing out the word.

“Are you okay being tucked away here while the other brothers take care of this mess with Jace?”

I mull over his question while staring at Liam’s arsenal.

“I don’t love the idea, no, but Ozzy says he has it handled, and I trust him to do what’s best for the club. You weren’t there when the Italians attacked the clubhouse. For weeks, everyone was watching their back. We had to go on lockdown until it was sorted. Ozzy’s girlfriend at the time got shot. He’s never had to deal with anything like that as prez, so I understand his hesitancy to throw us into an all-out war.” I shrug my shoulders. “I don’t know, man. It’s hard to feel like I should be helping the brothers catch this guy, but at the same time, I want to make sure Charlie’s safe. What better place than somewhere Jace or the Italians won’t know to look?”

“I get you, mate. If I had a woman in trouble, I’d want her as far away as possible, too.”

“What about you, though?” I ask Jude, considering he’s on a glorified babysitting job he didn’t ask for.

“Someone has to keep you kids in line. Who knows who could catch you unawares while you’re busy between the sheets with your girl? Plus, I could use a little time away. Since Charlie came around, the bunnies have been in a tizzy. I’m tired of the drama.” Jude sends me a smirk.

“I’m sorry,” I drawl. “Is my woman being here making it hard to get your dick sucked?”

“All any of them want to do is complain about having those two there and not having to earn their keep. It’s hard to get sucked off when their damn mouths won’t stop yapping.”

“Never let it be said that you aren’t a sensitive soul, my friend.”

“Trust me, mate,” Jude smirks. “That will never be said.”

Jude and I have had each other’s backs for years. There’s no doubt in my mind him being here is more than needing to get away from the bunny drama. Aside from Knox, my actual brother by blood, there’s no one I trust more with my life and, by extension, Charlie’s.

“You guys want to head to the lake before it gets dark?” I hear Charlie call down the stairs.

“Be right up, Charlie pie.”

“Ugh, try again.” Though her voice may sound annoyed, I’d bet money there’s a smile on my girl’s face.

“We good here?” I ask Jude as we turn off the lights and head back upstairs.

“Right as rain, mate.”

Jude clasps me on my back as we walk into the living room and find Charlie and Lucy ready for the lake.

When I see Charlie in a bright red bikini, which is probably at least one size too small, I nearly go weak in the fucking knees.

“See, good thing I’m here. There’s no way you won’t be distracted,” Jude remarks next to me.

I shove my friend a little harder than necessary, because fuck him for noticing, and he laughs.

“My brother probably has something that will pass as swim trunks somewhere. I’ll sort it while you guys rustle up some beers and snacks to take with us.”

I raise a finger and beckon Charlie to me while Lucy makes herself busy swiping sunscreen all over herself. When Charlie’s within reach, my arm bands around her waist and pulls her flush against my front.

“Goddamn, baby, seeing you in that little getup is making me think thoughts that have nothing to do with going to a lake.” I nuzzle the side of her neck and growl. “Do you have any idea what I would give to have you all to myself right now?”

Charlie presses closer to me, feeling the evidence of my arousal against her bare stomach.

“I have some idea.”

Jude comes from one of the rooms and throws a pair of trunks at my head.

“Hey, Lucifer, I would have thought you didn’t need all that sunscreen seeing as you’re from the depths of hell. Figured you would be immune from a little burn.”
