Her plan was in motion. Now all she had to do was play a convincing part.

SONNY

“This is a bad idea. For so many reasons.”

Sonny repeated that phrase several times in his head until he finally said it out loud. Sitting on his sled in the club parking lot for the better part of a half hour, in the freezing cold, was just the start.

Leaving a party with cold beer and hot women to drive to Airdrie was worse, so much more than bad.

And for what? Avery could look after herself. Maybe.

Anyway, he wasn’t considering a trip there just for her. Sonny could enjoy the sexy strippers and fuck one or two of them. And make sure that Avery didn’t get in over her head.

“I’m going with you.” Dante’s voice came out of nowhere and Sonny turned his head.

Dante got on his sled, a refurbished Harley Thunderbike, and stared at Sonny. “We can make bad decisions and cover each other’s asses.”

Sonny shook his head. “No need. I’m just going for the strippers.”

“Sure. That’s why you left Hazel and Tyra a half hour ago to sit on your bike. In the dark. By yourself.”

“Who?”

Dante smirked and his lip ring glinted. “Exactly. Let’s get out of here before you embarrass yourself. Oh no, too late.”

“Funny. You don’t need to come with, man. I can handle it.”

“I know but you’re acting weird. Avery’s fucking with your head.” Dante pointed to his crotch. “And the second one too. Where’s our ice man? The devil’s bastard? You’re normally not responsive to anyone. Barely when you fuck. What’s happening with you, man? It’s making me edgy.”

“Shut up.” Sonny gave him a choice middle finger. “It’s not her. I just got a bad feeling, ever since last week at the bar. And I always trust my gut.”

“And I trust you. Let’s go.”

They pulled out of the club property and headed west on the highway to Airdrie.

Sonny drove so fast he pulled into the Golden Ladder forty-eight minutes later. A new record. That’s what happens when you ride at night, with no cops in sight and few drivers on the road.

Dante pulled in beside him a minute later.

“You got fire in your ass tonight, Sonny. That was epic.”

He nodded and looked around at the row upon row of bikes. “Guess this is the place to be in Alberta tonight. There must be close to three hundred bikes here.”

They wandered up to the front door and paid the cover charge.

The place was packed, the smell of beer, sweat, and sex hanging heavy in the air. There was a long bar at the back and six raised platforms, three flanking each side, each with a stripper busy working the pole. Plus, a main stage at the front of the room, with a DJ. Sonny also noted the two exits on either side of the room.

He didn’t recognize any of the strippers performing so hopefully he was in time to catch Avery. Dante wandered off in front of him and used his considerable charm and looks on the curvy hostess to score a table near the main stage.

As they walked through the crowd, Sonny made a note of all the different cuts. There were many clubs represented, most from Alberta and a few from British Columbia. He nodded at a few guys he recognized.

Contrary to what most people assumed, not all clubs were constantly at war with each other.

Sonny also noticed two, no, three, Death Rider members in attendance. Avery’s instinct paid off in this case. The DR members glared at Sonny then went back to their table, their attention solely on the leggy redhead humping the pole in front of them.

“We got a new girl tonight.” The sharp-dressed DJ announced in a deep baritone as whistles and hollers rang out over the music. “Please give it up for… ‘The Devil’s Bitch’.”
