But he should’ve known that Avery wouldn’t just walk away without a fight. She opened the glass door, turned the shower faucet to hot and stepped under the spray to join him.

Sonny had a strong will, but even the toughest of men had their limits. He was done holding back.

“I hate you,” Avery hissed as she slid her hands around his neck and scraped her nails on his scalp. The move was just shy of painful and the sharp pleasure of it raced along his nerve endings. “You drive me fucking nuts.”

“The feeling is mutual,” Sonny whispered, leaning in until they were sharing the same breath.

“Let’s fuck it out of our system.”

Avery nodded her head. “It’s just sex. It doesn’t mean I like you.”

“I don’t like you either,” he murmured, staring into her luminous eyes for a heartbeat.

Two. Three.

Whatever remained of his defenses shattered as they lunged for each other in the small, steamy confines of the shower. He claimed her mouth in a possessive kiss, teasing her tongue relentlessly until she let out a loud moan. Sonny backed her up against the wall and their hips collided, his aching dick brushing against her silky skin.

The hell she didn’t like him. Both of them were goddamn liars.

Avery tasted like honey and hops, a combination that he found addictive. Her hard nipples grazed his chest and he reached down to cup one full breast, thumbing her nipple and then tugging, eliciting a low moan from her throat that made his cock throb harder. His other hand slid down her stomach, down, down, until he reached between her thighs. Slowly, he thumbed her clit.

“Fuck yes,” Avery moaned and thrust her hips forward, her hands finding purchase on his shoulders, her nails marking him. He watched her face, the flush of her cheeks and her wet, swollen lips. She was so beautiful in her pleasure.

He was so fucked.

Until the shrill sound of his phone ringing suddenly interrupted them.

The call was as effective as cold water. Reluctantly he withdrew, despite Avery’s soft moan of protest. He was right there with her. Whoever had interrupted them better have a good goddamn reason.

“What now?” Sonny grumbled.

He stepped away from the temptation that was Avery and got out of the shower. Grabbing a towel, he wrapped it around his hips and walked back into the kitchen.

His phone kept ringing. He spotted it on the counter.

Xander calling.

“What?” Sonny answered, standing in his kitchen dripping water all over the floor.

“We gotta round up everyone. Now. The alarm activated on the south ridge. I checked the cameras and there’s an armed group of guys trying to breach the gate.”

“Dante is at the bunker. Warn him, call Gage, Jackson, and Jesse. I’ll get everyone else. Tell Jesse we need the dogs on standby. I’ll head off on the ATV and fire warning shots.”

“Got it.”

Sonny typed out a group text with their emergency code, then slammed the phone down and headed back to his bedroom to throw on clothes. He looked in the bathroom, but Avery was already gone. He hadn’t even heard the front door shut. The only sign that she’d been here was the wet footmarks on the floor and the half empty beer bottle on the counter.

After dressing, he opened his gun safe, grabbed a couple of bulletproof vests, his handgun, and two rifles. Halfway down the steps, he saw Avery in jeans, a plaid shirt, and her leather jacket, walking back along the road to her cottage.

“Avery,” Sonny called out and Avery turned, her blonde hair reflecting in the early morning light. “An alarm tripped on the south ridge. There’s a group trying to break in.”

Avery ran back to him and pulled out her phone. “Shit, I turned my phone off after Dad kept trying to call me. I’d ask how the drop went tonight but I guess I have my answer.”

“Fucking Death Riders.”

“Did you kill their guys?”

Sonny shook his head. “No, I told you, I interrogated them. They’re still in the bunker.”
