“I guess their brothers’ want them back.”

“But how do they know they’re here? I pulled the SIM cards out of their phones,” Sonny murmured. “Fuck, the guy’s truck. We drove it back here. They must have a tracker on it.”

It didn’t matter either way.

He handed her one of the vests and a rifle. They suited up and hopped on his ATV.

With the low headlights on, Sonny drove quickly along the dirt road that spanned the western edge of the property. “I found out that Ray’s girl, Tyra, introduced him to the DR. And she was at our last party. A tall redhead, with a friend of hers, Hazel.”

“I remember her. Was she the one you slept with that night?” Avery snapped and Sonny turned to look at her.

Despite the situation, he barely stifled a laugh at her put out tone and crossed arms.

“I didn’t have sex with anyone. I got wasted instead cause my body and mind was fucked up over someone else,” Sonny admitted.

Crazy as it was, it felt good to finally be honest with himself and with Avery.

“You mean the blonde one?” Avery asked, her icy tone and glare telling.

“Definitely a blonde,” Sonny murmured with a smirk. Avery sat rigid beside him. “You, pain in the ass. I’m talking about you. You’re a goddamn witch.”

Avery chuckled and leaned in closer, her mouth brushing his ear. “I’ve been called worse.”

“And don’t think I’ve forgotten about the bunker. Tell me how you got out?”

“It’s my secret. Guess you’ll have to find other creative ways to tie me up,” she whispered.

Fuck, now was not the time to get a boner. Sonny tried to focus on the road – and crisis - in front of him.

Sonny’s phone pinged and he took a moment to glance at the message.

“Xander confirmed that it’s DR guys outside. They want a war, let’s give them a fucking war.”

AVERY

Avery would rather fight another MC in a shootout than face Sonny again.

Thank God for the distraction of an emergency.

After that kiss in the shower and their teasing banter, her body was going haywire, running hot and cold and everything in between. She never felt so desired, and yet oddly vulnerable at the same time. And she didn’t like it one bit. Sex was fun, and a good release. It shouldn’t mean more than that. Yet with Sonny, everything felt different. She felt different.

She had no idea what had possessed her to not only show up at his home after breaking out of the bunker but to seduce him.

No, that wasn’t true. She knew exactly what was happening but that didn’t mean she had to like it. Or him. She’d even told him as much.

Liar. You more than like him.

Her jealous reaction to his possible hook up with another woman was all the confirmation she needed that she was in way over her head for this man. But why him? Sonny wasn’t made for anything other than casual sex. And yet, he admitted that he didn’t sleep with that woman because he’d been preoccupied with thoughts of Avery.

So where did that leave them? Should they fuck it out or forget it?

Maybe the interruption this morning had been a good thing. They had bigger problems than their sex life to deal with.

Speaking of which, Sonny parked the ATV several metres away from the gate. Avery heard the faint echo of voices and then a flash of light. The sun wasn’t up yet so the hazy dawn made visibility poor.

Sonny tapped on his phone, then hopped off the vehicle. Avery turned at the sound of familiar rumbles. Several more ATVs pulled up alongside them, her brothers armed and ready. Dante and Gage, as well as Wyatt, Jackson, and Jesse.
