“Perfect. Remember, if the one in your ear canal dies, tap on the earring and talk.”

“Where did you buy this stuff?” Avery asked.

“It’s better you don’t know,” Xander replied as he wandered back into the room.

“I don’t care, as long as I can communicate with you guys tonight. Will it work over the loud music in the club?”

Sonny and Dante entered the room and wandered over to the gun cabinets.

Xander nodded and tapped away on his laptop. “Shouldn’t be an issue.”

“Test it out now, Xander. Or she ain’t walking into that bar,” Sonny demanded as he turned to face her. “I’m not putting my woman in front of these guys without a clear means of knowing what’s going on.”

Silence filled the room as everyone turned to stare at Sonny.

“What?” Sonny snapped. “Get back to work.”

His woman?

Avery was too shocked to say anything. She saw the concern in his eyes and she was still stunned. The man was not only a fierce lover but a protective beast when it came to her. As much as should rile her independent streak, she kinda liked the fact that he was proprietary. No man had ever cared about her in this way, and certainly not more than sexually.

“You heard the man,” Avery murmured and smiled at Sonny. “Pump up the music so we can see how it works in a noisy club.”

After a half hour of tests, they were satisfied that everything was working as it should. Avery bought a red wig this time, and green contact lenses to change her eye color. She hoped it would be enough to disguise herself. The men from the strip club wouldn’t recognize her after all the drugs they ingested that night, but Galen and Kingston Hedge might. But she looked like a totally different woman compared to the incident at the bar.

She only hoped she could fool them long enough. Once the group was nice and drunk and vulnerable, the Hellraisers could move in and annihilate them.

The Golden Ladder would never be the same.

Members got ready and prepared to take several SUVs instead of their bikes. Avery would arrive at the club at nine and the rest of the H&H members would wait in a nearby parking lot until she gave the go ahead for them to move in.

Sonny had outlined his plan and all the members loaded up with guns, vests, and any other weapons that might be needed. If the entire Death Riders crew were partying, that meant thirty guys would be in attendance. It was the biggest fight they’d ever faced.

Avery got her outfit for the club picked out, slipped her wig on, and packed her bag for the night.

As she headed out to leave, she noticed Sonny leaning against her bike, dressed in his leather jacket.

“You got everything for tonight? You’re feeling okay?” Sonny asked as he took off his sunglasses and stared at her.

Instead of replying with words, she reached up and kissed him. Sonny drew her in tightly and kissed her back until she was out of breath.

“I’ll be fine,” she whispered against his lips. “I know you’ve got my back.”

“Your back, your front, your everything,” Sonny replied with a smile gracing his lips. “Don’t go off script. Stick to the plan and use the emergency code if you need to.”

“I will. You be safe too.” Avery gave him one last kiss.

“Get going or you’ll be late,” Sonny swatted her ass. “I’ll be right behind you.”

“You like that position, don’t you?” Avery teased, trying to bring some levity to the situation. Getting amped up was normal but being overly nervous could fuck everything up.

“I do, now stop teasing me.” Sonny took a few steps away but turned around suddenly. “Avery, I want to tell you…I mean, I want you to know that I…”

It was so unlike Sonny to be hesitant or unsure of himself and his fumble had Avery holding back a smile. Sonny paused and ran a hand over his face, rubbing his scar. Avery waited patiently as they stared at each other. Sonny’s icy blues were on fire tonight and she felt his heated gaze like a warm caress. Instinctively, she knew what he wasn’t saying.

“I love you, too,” Avery whispered and watched the shock take over Sonny’s face, his eyebrows almost hitting his hairline.

She didn’t wait for a reply, she didn’t need one.
