Avery knew, just by the look in Sonny’s eyes, how he felt. The man had probably never said the words to anyone before. Maybe he’d never say them to her. But she would be brave enough for both of them. A strange kind of peace settled inside her now that she’d finally admitted how she felt about him.

Straddling her bike, she started the engine. Sonny appeared in front of her and tapped his chest twice, over his heart then pointed to her. She smiled and did the same. Sonny stepped aside but she felt his eyes on her as she headed out of the compound.

It was time to get down to business. Avery was ready to kick some Death Riders’ ass.

Sonny

Avery loved him.

She said the words Sonny had never heard in his life. No one had told him they loved him. And he was fine with that, he didn’t need anyone’s love. Or so he thought.

Until now.

Sonny was still in shock as he watched her drive away. He hadn’t said the words back, but her smile told him she knew how he felt.

Love?

All kinds of unexpected emotions bounced around inside him – hope, fear, longing, happiness - making him edgy and restless, as well as protective and downright possessive of this woman.

But what did Sonny know about love? He was sure to fuck up.

“You done out here mooning after your woman?” Dante called out, startling him. “We got to get going.”

Sonny turned and gave him the middle finger as he walked to join him on the porch.

“I know what needs to be done. Just let me pick up a few extra tools at the bunker. I’ll meet you back at the car in twenty.”

Dante nodded. “You sure you’re okay to do this?”

“I have every confidence in her,” Sonny snapped.

“I’m not worried about her, I’m worried about you, man,” Dante replied as he crossed his arms. “You need to be the cold bastard tonight and take no prisoners. All your focus should be on that. Not on her.”

“She’s going in there and risking her life. Of course, I’m focusing on her and her safety. But I can still do my job.”

“Love makes people do stupid things. Don’t react tonight without reason.”

Sonny glared at Dante. “Don’t talk to me like I’m stupid. And keep your opinions about my love life to yourself.”

“So, you admit you love her?” Dante smirked and Sonny walked past him.

“I’d like to tell her first, asshole,” Sonny mumbled. “Jesus, I can’t believe I’m even having this conversation. What the fuck, Dante?”

“Hey, you’re the one who went and fell in love, not me. That shit’s scary as fuck. No thanks.”

“Don’t knock it until you experience it yourself,” Sonny muttered, surprising himself.

“Hey guys, Sonny just admitted he’s in love with Avery!” Dante shouted as members began to pile out of the clubhouse.

Shouts and jeers pummeled Sonny’s ears as he walked away.

He ignored all of them, knowing this was just the beginning of the razzing.

Down in the heart of the bunker, Sonny made sure to grab his favorite knife, and a few other instruments that would be useful. He slid on a bulletproof vest under his plaid shirt and added his cut.

Walking back out to the SUV, he was greeted by Gage and Jesse.

“You ready?” Gage asked as he opened the passenger door.
