“What’s going on? You’re acting weird.” Sonny grabbed her arm. “Is everything okay?”
“I think so, but you may feel differently,” Avery whispered as she looked up at him.
“Whatever it is, we’ll work through it. Now tell me,” Sonny demanded.
She licked her lips and took a deep breath.
Avery pulled out the pregnancy test and held it up for Sonny to look at.
He stared at it but said nothing.
Then he pulled the stick out of her hand. He looked at the stick, then at Avery, his blue eyes lighting up with an intensity that made Avery’s breath catch.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” he yelled.
Her stomach dropped.
Fuck, was she wrong in anticipating his reaction?
“We’re gonna have a baby?” Sonny exclaimed, then reached out to touch her, placing his big palm on her belly. “We made a baby?”
Avery nodded, tears welling up in her eyes. She was too overwhelmed to speak.
“Hell yes!” Sonny exclaimed as he picked her up.
She wrapped her legs around his waist and held on tight, the relief and joy at his response washing over her.
Then he lowered his head and kissed her, telling her without words how he felt. She couldn’t hold back her smile.
“You’re really happy?” Avery whispered as she leaned back and looked at his face.
“The next generation of Hellraisers & Hellions is about to be unleashed on the world. Goddamn right I’m happy,” Sonny kissed her again. “Our family’s getting bigger. And there’s nothing I want more.”
Avery wholeheartedly agreed.
