“I can do that on my own, you know?”

“Do you really have to fight me on everything?”

“If you’re being infuriating? Yes.”

Sebastian groans softly. “How is it infuriating that I want to help you?”

“It’s infuriating that you assume Ineedhelp.”

“I don’t think youneedhelp. What I think is that you have your hands full, and I could take some of the load off. Seriously, is it just me, or are you normally this stubborn?”

“You bring out the best in me,” I say with a roll of my eyes. “Fine. Be my guest.”

I give Henry the command to take me to the exit and shift my attention to the path in front of me since the place is extremely busy. Henry zigzags between people with ease until we finally get out of the cafeteria.

“Well, that was something,” Sebastian says, reminding me he’s still here.

A smile tugs at the corner of my mouth as I pat Henry’s head. “He’s the best.” I turn to the side. “What did you want to talk about?”

“I’m…” He clears his throat. “I’m sorry. About running off like that yesterday. I shouldn’t have left you alone.”

I pull Henry to a stop and turn toward him, completely surprised by his apology. If somebody should apologize, it’s me. “It’s fine. I shouldn’t have pried. It’s none of my business why you’re here.”

“You’re helping me. You have every right to ask.”

I bite the inside of my cheek. A part of me wants him to tell me, but rationally I know if I were in his place, I’d also want to keep it a secret. So I can’t really blame him for wanting to do the same.

“What happened…” He swallows audibly. “I just can’t think about it because if I do…”

“It’s fine. You don’t have to tell me about it.”

“Let me make it up to you.”

“Sebastian, you don’t have—”

He places his hand over mine. “That’s what we agreed on, Birdy. You help me with my music, and I’ll help you with your list. Say yes.”

My brow quirks up. “Are we playing this game again?”

“You’re the one who said saying yes to helping me wasn’t challenging enough, so I came up with a different idea.”

I guess he has me there.

“What kind of idea are we talking about?” I ask tentatively.

Sebastian chuckles, the sound low and husky. “No way I’m telling you that.”

My eyes narrow at him in suspicion. “And why is that?”

“I’m not risking you changing your mind.”

“That doesn’t sound promising, Bash.” I jab him in the chest, giving him my sternest look. “Why would I change my mind?”

“Because you’re a good girl, Birdy.”

“Seriously?” I roll my eyes at him. “I’m not as good or as innocent as you think.”

“Your list would beg to differ,” Sebastian throws back.
