“No, of course not.” I shook my head vehemently. “Did I enjoy his handsome face? Yes. Did I laugh at his jokes? Yes. Did I admire all the hours he puts in at the gym? Yes. But I certainly was not trying to seduce Travis Chandler.”

“He sounds hot.” Chelsea laughed. “I’d ask you to introduce me, but I don’t do lawyers, so boring.”

“Thanks, sis.”

“Well, you’re not a lawyer yet.”

“Anyway, I can’t wait to see the look on Max’s face when he sees me with my hot boyfriend.” I paused. “And, Chelsea, I didn’t tell you this. Max is the same guy that I was trapped in the elevator with that day.”

“Oh, the rude one?” Her eyes widened. “No way.”

“Way!” I exclaimed dramatically. “As soon as I saw him, my heart fell. I just can’t believe my luck. I want him to feel like a fool for treating me like some desperado woman who will do anything to get a man. I want to show him that I don’t need a man.”

“By showing your bf?” Chelsea raised an eyebrow but soon pressed her lips together when she caught the look I gave her. Now was not the time for her smartass comments. Just thinking of Max made me infuriated and slightly hot. Why did he have to be so handsome and sexy? Why did I have to tease and taunt him like that? And why did he have to reciprocate? When he’d lifted me up, I’d felt so hot and horny, and he’d known. I’d known he’d known. And I’d known he’d felt the same way. What was it about hormones that made you attracted to a man even if you knew he was bad news and a jerk? His blue-green eyes popped into my mind, and I shuddered slightly.

“Polly, are you okay?” Harriet touched me lightly on the shoulder.

“Yeah.” I nodded slowly, my face feeling flushed. “I was just feeling upset.”

“Hey, we have your back,” Harriet said softly. “We won’t let this man intimidate you.”

“Not at all,” Chelsea said, walking over to both of us. “Group hug.” She opened her arms and wrapped them around our shoulders. “The Campbell sisters stick together. Through thick and thin.”

“Thanks, guys,” I said, feeling emotional. “I love you, guys.”

“I love you both as well.” Harriet beamed.

“Can I ask you something, Polly?” Chelsea said softly as she took a step back. “And promise not to get mad?”

“What is it?” I asked her, wondering what she was going to say now.

“Do you find Max attractive?” she asked quickly. “Like if this was a different scenario, could you picture yourself on a date with him or making out or anything?”

I stared at her for a couple of seconds and sighed. “I mean, I wouldn’t kick him out of bed.” I hated admitting it, but it was true. If I’d never had any interactions with him before, he would be someone I would flirt with. “But I do know him, and he’s a jerk. So no, I wouldn’t give him the time of day, even if he begged me.” Which wasn’t technically true. If he’d tried to touch me or kiss me earlier, I wasn’t so sure I would have pushed him away. My body was far weaker than my mind.

PING. My phone beeped, and I looked down at the screen.

“Oh my gosh,” I cried out excitedly. “I already have five messages waiting for me.”

“Yay.” Chelsea grinned. “A nipple pic will do it every time.” She winked at me, and I just shook my head. I looked back at my photos quickly to see just how revealing the photo was and cringed slightly, but I just had to remember I was doing this for a reason.

Chapter12

“Morning, Polly.” Natasha hurried over to me as I entered the conference room. She held two doughnuts in her hand and offered me one. “Andrew was trying to eat all of them, so I got one for you.”

“Oh, thanks!” I grinned at her as I took it gratefully. “I just need some coffee.”

“We have five minutes before the meeting starts and we get our placements. Shall we go to the break room and get one?”

“Yes, please.” I nodded, yawning slightly. “I’m so tired.”

“Ooh, how come?” Her coffee-colored eyes gazed at me with curiosity. “Late-night date?”

“I wish.” I shook my head. “I was sending messages back and forth on a dating app with nine different guys.”

“Nine?” She giggled. “You go, girl.”

“It felt like a lot of work.” I shook my head. “Men can be so boring sometimes.”
