He followed the deepest gash across her abdomen. And then he dipped lower, replacing his hands with his mouth, worshipping her in the most intimate way possible. The breath heaved from her lungs, escaping in breathy whimpers and small pleas formore.

Not that he listened. He continued to drive her insane, never quite giving her the relief she so urgently desired. “Brand,” she finally cried. “Please!”

Instantly, he reared up above her, settling heavily between her thighs. He probed her entrance, then carefully thrust inward. The pain was brief, then gone, replaced by a rising need, indescribable in its intensity.

Where before she sought relief, now she chased it, following him toward some elusive pinnacle. Higher and higher he drove her, pushing, pushing, pushing. She wrapped her legs around his waist, her movements becoming smoother and smoother with each passing moment, helping reach that deliciouspeak.

And then she was there, astaggering climax that had her arching beneath him, crying out in ecstasy. He followed her over, his shout ringing in her ears, sinking into and through her. The heat of his release filled her, warm and life-affirming.

In that moment, she knew. Even though he said their relationship could never last, she’d live in the now and rejoice in every moment she had with him. She’d find a way to make the seduction last because she can't possibly lose something so amazing after just discovering it. Most of all, she’d share more amazing nights like this and give him every bit of love she possessed.

Because somehow, by some strange means, she’d found her wayhome.

Warm, sunnyrays of early morning sunshine woke Mia the next morning. She stretched, muscles deliciously sore. Beside her, Brand nuzzled the back of herneck.

“Good morning, wife,” he murmured, his voice delectably low and sleep roughened.

“Good morning, husband.”

She rolled toward him and he instantly kissed her, as though it were the most natural act in the world. Hope filled her, ahope she quickly shoved down. Akiss did not mean forever. Akiss meant good morning, nothingmore.

“Why don’t you grab a shower while I order breakfast,” he suggested.

“Sounds good.”

Mia left the bed and padded naked into the bathroom. The night before had been an amazing revelation. She’d never experienced anything like it. She smothered a quick laugh. Well, of course not. She’d never made love before. Still, that didn’t explain last night how right being with Brand felt, almost as though it were meant tobe.

But more than that, she’d never felt such a level of comfortable intimacy. Never felt so open with someone the way she did with Brand. Even nudity didn’t bother her. Granted, after all the surgeries and doctors and examinations, having strangers study her unclothed body no longer embarrassed or intimidatedher.

To her surprise, Brand joined her a few minutes into her shower, filling his hands with shower gel and helping her wash. His clever fingers teased across her breasts and then down her abdomen to the needy core of her. She leaned back against him, encouraging him with soft moans of delight.

“Again?” she asked. “You want to make love again?”

He chuckled, so delicious, so suggestive. “I told you. Last night was practice. Ican’t seduce you until we’ve gotten to know each other, what we each enjoy.”

“This,” she whimpered. “I enjoy this.”

“Mmm.” His fingers slipping inside her, moving in a teasing rhythm that threatened to drive her insane. “Me, too.”

She came with an inarticulate cry, her knees giving out. Fortunately, Brand caught her, holding her safe and secure in his arms. “Easy, sweetheart. I’ve got you.”

“What about you? You need to make love, too.”

“I’m concerned you might be too sore after your first time making love. Next time. For now, let’s give you time to heal.”

Should she protest? Agree? Or maybe she could… She turned to face him, gently cupping him, squeezing and tracing the length of him with sudsy fingers. Finding the slick push and pull rhythm he’d used onher.

“Mia.” Her name escaped in a groan and he sank his hands into her hair, pulling her upward for a deep, passionate kiss. “You don’t have to do this.”

“I know. Iwant to.”

And she did. It didn’t take long for him to find his relief. He spilled across her hands and belly and when he finished, she washed him. Gently. Tenderly. Lovingly. And in that moment, she knew she was undone.

She might not have fallen in love. But she’d fallen. When the time came to leave, it would more than hurt. It might just destroyher.

By the timethey finished showering, breakfast had arrived and been set up in the small dining area of the suite. Brand had decided to go all out, ordering everything from coffee to pastries to eggs benedict and smoked salmon. And, of course, biscotti.

He studied his wife curiously. He’d never met anyone like her. Even Carina, who prided herself on her skills as a lover, couldn’t touch Mia at her most innocent and inexperienced.
