There was no doubt she was going to regret this, and she knew it. This was her twentieth-plus year as a Fed, and she’d seen people make some bad mistakes.

“PLEASE.”

She relented because there was no doubt he’d do it behind their backs. Tommy was a special kind of stubborn and didn’t have the skills to back that crazy up.

Like Zayn.

Or Jagger.

Or Rogue.

Or Dakota.

Honestly, he wasn’t Hunter material, and the team only kept him with them for Gene. If he and Gene were kaput, that meant Tommy was free to go.

He’d freaking lost Violet the night they were going after Chevy, and that didn’t give her hope about how well he was going to fare back in the cop world.

He kept pushing.

“Gene wants to go back to the FBI, and he wanted me to go with him. I can’t because of Ethan and his relationship. I want to go back to the NOPD. Please help me. I know you can pull strings.”

Oh, hell, no.

There was no freaking way Tommy was going to be on her team. She didn’t have time for babysitting more than she already did.

Alex was a hot mess, and she’d just cleaned up Noah and Lawless.

Plus, she had Ian to train.

Gene…she could use him. He’d been a Fed, and he was good at it, but Tommy?

The dude didn’t even know his man and her man had matching tats. He didn’t know his bedmate was a dirty bottom who liked taking a fucking.

Talk about Captain Oblivious.

“I’ll be your eyes and ears. I’ll still help, but I’ll be able to be who I am. A cop.”

Lordy.

“Are you sure that’s what you want?” she asked, hoping he’d change his mind.

He nodded.

Well, then, she’d try.

Tommy wasn’t a good Hunter, but he’d tried his best, and she owed him that.

“I can see what I can do. I will warn you though, I don’t have that much pull here. Axelle does. She’s the one who can move mountains. I run headlong into them. No one in this building likes me. I make their life hell.”

She made every cop’s life hell.

“So does that mean you’re taking him back as an FBI agent?” Tommy asked.

She was honest.

“I haven’t been asked to do that,” she admitted. “No one has brought that up. If he asks, I’ll take it into consideration, but only because he has employment history, and he knows how to be a Fed.”

He was quiet.
