“He’s in the penthouse with Gene. The dude didn’t look too good either.”

No.

Shock.

There.

“Can you do me a favor?”

He wasn’t sure where this was going.

“What?”

“Stay at the hotel and don’t leave. I have to get bodies that we need to cover up shipped to Chris in DC, then head out to pick up a shipment of guns, and…”

He actually laughed.

“These are all conversations I never thought I’d hear in my whole life, especially not as a cop.”

“You and me both, Duke. You and me both. I just have that bad feeling, and I need to make sure you and Ethan are safe. Gene too. Can you tell security to keep them locked down?”

“I can. You think we’re in danger?”

“I think Artemis Dubois is a chilly cuntcicle who would love to make me bleed.”

And that was to the point.

“Okay, I’ll handle that. I’m still waiting on intel from Maura to come in. I don’t think Remington got back yet.”

She looked at her watch.

“He’s likely taking the long trip back to the house so as not to get a tail. He’ll get in soon.”

He hoped so.

Duke wanted to go home at some point. He’d been working local cases, and got spoiled.

“Are you safe?”

She could see Ivan about ten feet away, and he was checking in with his people on the ground.

“Yeah, I believe so.”

“Good. Keep it that way. Callen texted me to LoJack you anyway possible. Don’t go MIA. He will get his Native ass on a flight here.”

She didn’t doubt that.

“I hear ya,” she said. “Oh, here comes the stalling ME. I gotta go. Be safe. Love you,” she said, hanging up before he could say anything.

The man approached.

“Director Blackhawk?”

She shook his hand.

“Doctor Strong?” she asked.

He nodded.
