“I love you, too, Sweetness. You, me, and a date night when you’re back. I’m up in the rotation, and I miss my girl.”

She grinned.

It was short-lived because the other ME came out.

“Okay, you can have the bodies. I’ll load them up,” he said.

“Thank you, Doctor.”

Then, she focused on her husband.

“Miss me, okay? I know I’ll miss you.”

He blew her a kiss.

“Fight for your life,” he said, “and if Artemis fucks with you, Elizabeth, don’t hesitate to put her down like the rabid animal she is.”

Oh, on that, she agreed.

“Dontcha know it?” she asked, winking at him before ending the call.

Only, that might be harder than anyone knew.

Artemis wasn’t a newbie.

She was a pro.

And that might make this beyond dangerous for her and The Hunters.

It might make it deadly.

Chapter Nine

Chartres Street

Meeting Time

Monday

One P.M.

W hen Maura heard the chime of the security system emanating from the courtyard gate, she knew who would be back in from their excursion out. Everyone had been locked down but a couple of their people.

Gene was off with Ethan Blackhawk.

Remington was trying to buy them some intel at The Underground.

Oh, and Elizabeth was playing investigator at the police station with Tommy.

Somehow, she doubted Ethan and Gene would be coming back any time soon. There had definitely been tension when they left, and there was likely more on the horizon.

It was tough sitting there and not doing anything. Only, until they had something to work with, they had to be patient. Oh, and patience…

It was not a Hunter’s friend.

The Snakes were pacing.

Their husbands were edgy.
