He continued.

“I tried to buy them. I begged, threatened, and pleaded with the seller. He wouldn’t let me have them.”

“I’ll get them,” Rogue offered. “I’ll get them for you.”

He looked up.

“You don’t have to.”

He argued that.

“I do because you’re my brother. You’re my family. I’ll buy them for whatever the asshole is selling them for and get them for you.”

They all agreed.

“Calyx bought them. She bought them because she wanted to give Karen and Kelsy some dignity. She also killed the asshole, but before she did, he told her something.”

They listened.

“He got them from Artemis, with the caveat that if I asked to buy them, he wasn’t to let me have them.”

“Oh, that cunt,” Jinx said.

On that, they all agreed.

“He was paid more each time I offered to buy them. When Calyx wanted them, he said yes, and then tried to renege. He must have talked to Artemis, who told him not to let her have them.”

“And she killed him?”

He nodded.

And that was love.

That was proof that they knew Calyx was a good person for Remmy.

“Where are they?” Zayn asked. “You shouldn’t be in possession of them. It’s not good for your mental health.”

He was aware.

“She shredded them in front of me and the negatives. They’re gone, and she saved me. I’m not accustomed to someone saving me. I save myself.”

Maura ran her fingers over his hand.

“Not anymore, Rem. You found someone who wants to do the job. Let her. It sounds like you got lucky and found a woman who is strong enough to do it.”

“And if she dies?” he whispered, tears dripping from his cheeks onto the counter.

“She won’t,” Jagger said. “We’ll protect her too,” he offered, knowing what had the man scared. “She’s ours like you’re ours.”

He nodded.

Jinx turned the stool he was on and hugged him. Remington let her, and in that moment, they all just let him feel what he was feeling.

No one told him it was right.

Or wrong.

He grieved.
