“MATE, go into holographic mode,” she said. “I want to see everything like you showed Elizabeth before.”

The system hummed.

“Authorization?” MATE asked.

Uh, she didn’t have authorization. So, she took a chance and winged it.

“Blackhawk, Elizabeth Renee,” she offered.

Yeah, that was the worst thing to do.

Merry jumped as the system went bananas, the lights flashed, and the room went red.

Finally, MATE spoke.

“Do you want to play a game?” MATE said, scaring the shit out of everyone.

No one moved.

“Oh, Jesus,” Zayn said, looking around.

Hearing the commotion, Elizabeth came out of the kitchen laughing her ass off because if you wanted to scare a bunch of marines, quote War Games.

“MATE, stop screwing with them. Let them have access to holographic mode.”

Zayn stared at her.

“You’re sick. That wasn’t funny. I expected to be locked in this house.”

She laughed even more.

“I know. Sometimes, I just can’t help myself. I knew one day someone would try. It was going to be either you guys or my team trying to use my creds. Either way, I just hoped I’d be there to see it go down.”

All around them, the lights went back on, and Elizabeth carried a sandwich toward the stairs.

She.

Kept.

Laughing.

There were times she found herself so damn amusing, and this was one of those times.

Merry shook her head.

“Now, I’m afraid of it,” she admitted. “What if bars slide onto the windows and we become prisoners?”

Zayn looked around in paranoia.

“Do you think she’d do that?” he asked, getting twitchy in their own living room.

That’s when they heard her.

“YES!” Elizabeth shouted to them as she walked up the stairs.

Zayn growled.

“I hate her.”
