She beat the bush.

With a big-ass stick.

“You’re on Team Gene and Ethan, so we have nothing to say.”

Yeah, she’d pegged that one.

Elizabeth wasn’t having it.

“Lose the anger, Tommy. You’re about to jump into the fire, and I’m going to likely be the one who has to save your ass at some point. If you want to be angry at Gene, or Ethan, or whoever, point it at them, not me.”

He turned.

“You could just tell your husband to stay away from him. You could tell YOUR HUSBAND that the man I love is no longer his. It would be simple.”

She laughed.

“My husband? That sounds like you believe that he’s my possession and not my partner, and two, that this has been my husband's plan to steal away your man when you were acting like an idiot. While I’m sure he saw this coming, I know he doesn’t play that game.”

“You could do it. That’s the bottom line.”

She shrugged.

“I’m not doing that,” she said. “I’m not telling my husband what he can and can’t do. Ethan is a smart man, and he’d been taking care of himself a long time before he married me. He knows what he’s doing.”

“Yeah, well, it’s likely going to be Gene. Don’t be shocked when you find them naked in bed together. I’m calling it now.”

She sat on the end of the bed.

“You have very little faith in a man you were going to marry. As for me, I trust them both—more than you trust your partner.”

“You saw him on the corner. They were kissing. Know who I don’t kiss? My ex.”

Jesus.

Not this again.

Ethan had told her about Tommy and his conversation, where he had to withhold the truth because the man was never going to trust Gene.

She knew everything.

Literally.

Everything.

They didn’t have secrets, and right now, she knew Ethan was back at the hotel with Gene because he’d checked in.

They were partners, and she wasn’t threatened by Ethan’s ex being around.

She knew what Gene had done for those years that he’d been with Ethan.

He’d saved him.

Countless.

Times.

They’d saved each other. She was not going to shit on that bond because of insecurity.
