“There,” she said as one appeared. “It’s the closest to the warehouse, and in the direction he was walking. He’d get them there.”

Reaper whistled.

“That’s the halfway point. That’s five miles of trekking through gator infested water. Could he make it if he was injured?”

That was a good question.

She thought about the bodies at the warehouse. None had guns, and no tech either.

“Remington is a survivor. He’s been in worse situations as a CIA spook.”

They needed confirmation he was in the swamp. That was all they needed.

“Let me try to call one of his burner phones,” Jagger said. “The one we tagged was destroyed outside of The Underground, but we might get lucky.”

He pulled his phone out, turning it on. As it booted up, he was surprised to get a message.

It was from a number he didn’t recognize. When he opened it, his heart was pounding.

Hot.

Damn.

It looked like they’d been right, and the universe was providing them the intel they needed.

“Maura, look.”

She took the phone.

‘Artemis got us. We’re in the swamp. Remmy is hurt. He’s bleeding from a gunshot wound. Cabin. Five miles in. Need help—Calyx.’

Well, there it was.

They wouldn’t be wasting time wandering in the swamp. They had confirmation.

She sent a text back, praying the phone was on.

‘We’re coming in for you. Hang tight. We’ll get you out. The Major.’

It was time to move.

“We need special skills for this. Eve and Jinx, you’re going to have to stay here.”

They didn’t like that.

Oh, but their husbands did.

“Major.”

She stopped Jinx.

This was about being prepared for worst-case scenario. They had to cover their asses.

“We don’t know this isn’t a trap. We need you here to make sure the family is safe. We don’t have Gene anymore, and Tommy is gone. You guys have to hold down this house. If you have to get out, go into the private dwelling, or leave to the bunker.”

They got it now. They understood.

“Yes, Major.”
