Maura was the queen of extraction plans. This was literally what she did.
This was her jam.
She focused on the man who had once been on their team.
“Captain, we need one more person. Can you get us someone we can trust? Someone unbuyable.”
That was all he needed to hear.
He grinned.
“I can. He’s expensive.”
Jagger stopped that.
“Remmy is our brother. Tell the person they can have the price they ask. We’re not worried about that. Just get us help.”
He nodded.
“Wolf is in the area. He’s likely not far away. He’s my backup if it gets dicey. He’ll do it.”
That’s what they needed.
Who knew what they were going to find there?
“Do it.”
Then, she knew what they needed to do before heading out into this nightmare.
“Get into waterproof gear. There are snakes, gators, and leeches. I really, really hate the leeches.”
Reaper laughed.
“You haven’t lived until you’ve had five stuck to your dick,” he said. “That’s not fun. Dicks bleed.”
They all stared at him as if he was a little shy of being sane. Maybe he was, but in their world, you did what you were told, including getting into teeming leech-filled water.
“What? They do.”
Maura laughed.
“Well, we’re going swamping in a Southern bayou jungle. I love the jungle. It’s like Peru all over again.”
As if on cue, Zayn fell for it again.
“What happened in Peru?”
Without missing a beat, she, Jagger, and Lewis all said the same thing.
“Classified.”
Zayn stared at them, and he wasn’t exactly amused by them.
“Great. There’s another asshole that is going to do that,” he stated.
Yes, yes, there was.
The band was mostly back together.
