“Artemis Dubois, and she made a play for Remington. My Marines found her den of sickness, and she planned on another trip to the sexual assault rodeo with Remington, and had the whole room plastered with his wife and child’s face.”

That was the question of the hour.
“She had to tell the guerillas to move, Ax. She was the only other person in the room who could know. Yes, Chevy and Micah were on the payroll, but there’s no way the guerillas could have moved that fast. We let her go after I shot her.”

“She’s been getting intel on everyone and everything. She has to be getting it from high up the food chain. When we were under, who didn’t offer up much help?”
“The FBI director who offed himself, and then the CIA director.”
“Good old Bob, that dickwad. It has to be Bob. So, Boss, have fun with that, but steal me a dementia-ridden old lady so I can fuck with Artemis like only I can.”

“I’m next,” Elizabeth stated. “She’s gunning for Maura and Jagger. She’s tagged Jinx, but who are her other enemies?”
“You and me.”
Never let it be said Elizabeth wasn’t aware of the bullshit that was possible when it came to Artemis.
“Yep. She’ll try to take us apart, and we don’t know what the CIA has on us. So…I’d be worried. We have kids to protect.”
Oh, she was.
“Handle her. I’ll get the woman and have her to you by daylight.”
“The Marines are going into the swamp to save Remington. I’ll keep you updated.”
“And Elizabeth?”
“Yes?”
“When you get her, and you’ve stared her in the eyes, this time, don’t aim for the Kevlar.”
And there it was.
Her boss gave her the directive.
Artemis Dubois clock just began ticking.
“I understand, Director,” she said.
Elizabeth would handle it if Remington didn’t. They were going to have to tell him that this wasn’t on him. He’d hidden his wife and child.
Artemis had betrayed him.
