“It’s never a problem. Have a good night, Ax.”

When the call went dead, she was shaken.

Axelle knew how to deal with an angry, pissed-off Gabe. That had been years of practice.

This different Gabe?

Yeah, she didn’t like it.

Not.

One.

Bit.

Monday Night

Warehouse

Mission Time

When they arrived, the warehouse seemed to be quiet, but they weren’t getting close enough to find out.

Because they needed to get moving, they hid their vehicle so that no one would know they were going into the swamp.

They’d ditched the dead men before, sanitizing the scene the best they could, their hopes that Artemis would never know that they’d been there.

At some point, Artemis would appear, and because they knew where she’d head…

This was the second advantage of the night.

They had access to her warehouse and plan, and her last bastion of safety.

As they stood there, they heard footsteps approaching, and there was no doubt why.

The man was making himself known.

There was a whistle, and Lewis did it back, signaling to the man.

“That’s Wolf. He’s a good tracker.”

Well, that’s what they’d need. They were about to be waist-deep in water that was teeming with their worst nightmares.

“I hope he likes swamp swimming.”

When the man appeared, he hugged his fellow Spider. Unlike the Snakes, the men seemed much friendlier than the women had been.

“My dude, a beard?” he asked as Wolf grinned at him.

“I’m incognito.”

When he looked over he saluted the woman standing there. It was crystal clear he knew who she was.

And that she was working.

“Major!” he said, going to attention.
