MATE began scrolling through information, and they saw some of it was related to Elizabeth.

Oh, shit.

“MATE, don’t share anything. You can’t let that information out,” Merry stated, her fingers moving over the actual computer keyboard.

MATE glitched again.

“Cyber breach in minutes,” MATE said. “What protocols should I use?”

“SHUT DOWN!” Merry said.

“Access to the mainframe is happening in one minute. Someone is hacking the system.”

Merry knew that the person trying to access would then have all their intel.

“Call Elizabeth,” she told Zayn, and he did.

It didn’t take long for her to answer.

“What’s…?”

Merry interrupted.

“Someone is trying to access MATE’S information. It’s an outside source, and we have the ISP address. They don’t realize we’re currently using her, so that’s saving our ass. We have a minute before they have your information, and ours. It’s specifically targeting us and you. How do I protect MATE?”

There was only one way.

Oh, and she suspected she knew who was doing it too.

“MATE. Shut down. Seal parameters and don’t let anyone access you. Access code Leonard Industries, Blue, beta, five. Give voice control to Meredith Savage, and no other access but her and myself.”

The system slowed the access, blocking it.

It beeped, and then, the big screen went black.

Like she died.

“Uh, what happened to MATE?” Dakota asked. “Zen?” he asked.

No one spoke.

Elizabeth was concerned, but she knew that the tech would hold up, and also that she was going to punch a certain director in the face.

The CIA.

Get information on her, would they?

Oh, well, this was about to be a war.

“MATE? Zen?” Stella said.

Elizabeth reassured her.

“She’s resetting. Once I give her that code, she locks down. Give her a second to do that. She won’t be on the big screen. You’re going to have to use the tablet for her. That means no holographic mapping.”

They could live without it.

When the tablet came to life, Merry sighed.
