Are you okay? he signed.

She nodded.

I have a shitstorm coming, and I need your help. Something is bothering me, and I think we have a rat trying to take us out. Us being ME.

Oh, he didn’t like that.

Not.

At.

All.

I’ll be right out. Let me get free of his body.

Elizabeth nodded and backed out of the room, giving her husband space. When she returned to the couch, she began researching.

It wasn’t long before Ethan appeared.

“Hey,” he said, keeping his voice low. “Sorry about that.”

She looked up.

“For what?” she asked.

“I fell asleep. He was so upset, that I didn’t think about heading back to our bed.”

She laughed.

“One, who is sleeping?” she asked. “Unfortunately, I have a huge operation going on here. Second, I’m good with you helping someone you love. If he needs you, I get it. How many times have you let me comfort someone I love?”

He gave her a kiss.

“Thank you for understanding, Lyzee, my love. I know that he’s worried this will destroy our marriage.”

She reassured him.

“It won’t. I love Gene.”

For that, he was grateful.

“And I know you do too. Really, Ethan. I’m okay with him needing to cuddle up with you. God knows that’s my preferred place to be.”

He leaned over and took her mouth with his, and the kiss proved that the love between them was unbreakable.

“I love you,” he whispered, when he broke the kiss.

“Ditto. Letting you save him is the least I can do. Remember when Callen needed someone to keep him safe? Or when Chris found out that his wife was dead, and he had HIV?”

Ethan tucked some of her hair behind her ear.

“Uh, we’ve ended up sleeping with them in the Biblical definition.”

She laughed.

“Yeah, well, that’s not happening. Gene isn’t my type. I’m either into MEs or Natives. I have a kink, and he’s not BI. He is all about dick. We have that in common.”

Ethan knew he was lucky, and really, his wife had nothing to worry about. He loved her so much that he’d cease to exist if he lost her.
