Elizabeth laughed.
“Yeah, no. You’re forgetting, Artemis. I outthought you on this one. What makes you think I’m not ready to do the same to a scumbag Russian who kills innocent people and thinks he can take us down from the inside out?”
“He’s stronger than your Hunters.”
Yeah, well, she was willing to take that bet. Elizabeth had a plan.
“Just shoot me already, Blackhawk. Let’s get this game over with. I know you’re not putting me in a cell. You’re not willing to let me escape.”
“Well, that’s the first logical thing you said all day,” she admitted. “You know me so well.”
When Artemis went for her gun, she didn’t have a chance. It was gone before her fingers could touch it. Someone ripped it from her hand.
When she spun, she knew why.
“Hey, Major,” Elizabeth said. “This is the bitch who ratted you and your mob husband out to a Russian. She’s also the one who compromised Jinx, a woman who is like your child. How do you feel about that?”
Unfortunately for Artemis, she hadn’t heard her coming.
That was the point.
She tried to move away from the Marine, but she didn’t get a chance.
“I’d stand really still if I were you. I get mean,” she admitted.
From where she stood, Elizabeth enjoyed the show.
“Yeah, I told ya, Artie. I don’t have to do shit. You’ve pissed off the Major and made her walk through a swamp to save Remington—who is alive because Calyx, his girl, saved him. You really are bad at shit. You done fucked up, girl.”
She reached for her knife and growled.
Elizabeth warned her.
“Oh, that’s a bad idea. Major Gaines Armstrong here is really good with a…”
She didn’t get to finish.
Maura’s knife came out and hit the woman in the shoulder, and before she even knew what happened, it killed the nerve in her arm.
Artemis gasped.
Only, it was too late.
She screamed as she ripped the blade from her arm and charged at Maura, who handled it.
With one punch to the face, she went down.
“You sic the Russians on my family?” she asked, taking off her guns and tossing them to her husband who came in behind her. “Then, you pay a mercenary to kidnap Merry and Boone?”
She was in some shit.
“Then, if that’s not douchey enough, you come for Remington after you had his family killed? His wife and daughter raped?”
