They had been betrayed.

Artemis had been there long enough to extract any and all information about them in the city. This was likely going to be a two-pronged attack.

First, payback.

Then, taking over the city.

“Oh, well, no shock there,” Remington said. “I knew she had to be behind all of this. When she is in a location, it tends to go to shit right after her. That’s her MO and her specialty. Selling people out.”

Elizabeth wanted to get this done because they had a lot of work to do.

“Let me get someone in here who specializes in messes like that, and to help you understand.”

When she whistled, they didn’t have a freaking clue who she was calling.

No one was shocked when Ethan walked into the room, but they were shocked when he came in with a stranger.

Immediately, Zayn got between the man and Stella and pulled his gun.

Only, Jagger put his hand on it, pushing it down.

This was a very familiar face. They’d been through shit together and lived to tell about it.

This wasn’t a foe.

This was a loyal friend.

“What the hell?” Jagger asked, staring in freaking disbelief.

Oh, yeah, he recognized him.

Maura stood.

“Captain?” she inquired, surprised as hell.

He grinned.

“Hey, Major. How’s tricks?” he asked, heading her way.

Everyone in the room stared as she ran at him, jumped, and wrapped her legs around his hips.

And Jagger didn’t kill him.

In fact, he was right behind her in the greeting of the stranger, proving he was VERY familiar to them.

The man hugged them both, and they clearly had some connection.

When he put her down and dropped his arm over Jagger’s shoulders, he did the introductions.

“Everyone, this is Captain Lewis Faulkner,” Jagger said, grinning like an idiot.

Yeah, they’d been through Hell together.

And survived.

“Lewis Faulkner?” Merry asked. “As in one of your Marines who was betrayed by Chevy? That Lewis Faulkner?”

He nodded.
