“Is she okay?” Sienna jumped in, earning herself a look from Mr. Carrington for interrupting him, but she didn’t care.

“As I said, there’ve been no casualties,” he repeated with visibly contained annoyance, then took a breath and delivered the end report in a calmer but straight-to-the-point sense. “Tina’s a bit shaken but otherwise unharmed. We’ve had her transferred to the compound.”

“She’s here?” Sienna asked, interrupting yet again, but this time Mr. Carrington didn’t mind as he nodded.

“I hope it’s okay that we’ve given her your old room.”

“Yes, of course,” Sienna replied without hesitation, then stood up. “Is it okay if I go to see her?”

Mr. Carrington lifted his hand as if in a stop sign, signaling for her to slow down. “Not yet,” he told her and when his face turned serious, she knew there was more to the story. “We’ve caught one of the attackers.”

The looks across the table spoke volumes. They were a mix of excitement, hope, and fear all in one.

“Will he be able to lead us to Kyle?” Jensen asked what was ultimately on everyone’s mind. Catching Kyle would bring an end to the whole nightmare, allowing them all to take a breath without constantly glancing behind their shoulders.

“He’s unconscious, but I’ve been informed that he should regain consciousness any moment now,” Mr. Carrington replied, avoiding answering directly. “We don’t know what exactly he’ll be able to tell us, but at this point, any information we get is more than what we had before.”

“May I ask for your permission to interrogate him,” Aiden said, his voice cold and determined.

Sienna wasn’t a fool and knew exactly what kind of interrogation Aiden had in mind. Surprisingly enough, the thought of Aiden torturing someone, especially a guy that worked for Kyle, didn’t repel her. In fact, if given a chance, she wouldn’t mind doing it herself. The Remingtons caused her too much damage, making it impossible to move on from all the pain and suffering she’d been subjected to in the past few months.

“Set up the cameras,” Mr. Carrington ordered, his eyes on Xavier. “I want to catch that bastard’s every gesture and word on tape for our experts to analyze it later on. Maybe he’ll slip up and tell us something. I also want him hooked up on everything from a heart monitor to measuring his brain waves. I don’t want to miss a thing. He’s our chance to finish this before more people get caught in the crossfire.”

“Yes, Father,” Xavier replied and bowed his head in respect.

Mr. Carrington might’ve been a bastard at times, but his people and his heirs truly loved him. Sienna hadn’t heard a bad word muttered about him, not even behind the confines of a closed door. She thought of her father, believing he was just as loved, but it was a lie. Maybe if she’d known that sooner, she could have done something to change the fate of the Ryders. She’d like to believe that, but in her heart, she knew that even if a year ago, she had the knowledge that she has now, she wouldn’t have done anything differently. Back then, she was a spoiled little brat who only cared about partying and hanging out with the hottest celebrities in the city. Her whole life was a sad sham.

“He’s in the interrogation room,” Mr. Carrington informed them. “Aiden will put an earpiece in his ear for you to pass on to him your questions, because he’ll be the only one to talk to our prisoner. However, you’re all welcome to watch the interrogation behind the double glass window. There’s one thing I’ll warn you about, Aiden will use any means necessary to extract the information and I don’t want anyone to get in his way.”

Despite speaking in general, Sienna knew that Mr. Carrington’s words were meant for her. He locked his eye with hers, silently communicating the things he left unspoken. No matter how brutal Aiden’s techniques might turn out to be, Sienna wouldn’t dare to interrupt. Besides, she had zero interest in being on the prisoner’s side. Some part of her suspected that Tina wasn’t the real target, and if he had her in sights instead, she’d be dead long before the word interrogation could be muttered.

Only when Mr. Carrington was satisfied with everyone’s quiet consent, he looked at Sienna’s biological father. “Is there anything you’d like to add?”

Mr. Lockwood shook his head. “I think you’ve covered it all.”

“Okay,” Mr. Carrington nodded and clapped his hands. “In that case, there’s no point in us wasting time. The sooner we get what we need, the better. Let’s go to work.”

“And Tina?” Sienna asked quickly, before everyone could go their own way.

“I’ve been told that she’s resting, but you can visit her whenever you want,” Mr. Carrington said firmly but not unkindly.

“Thank you,” Sienna replied, then followed the heirs out of the war room.

She was itching to check in on Tina, but Mr. Carrington assured her that she was unharmed. Sienna had to keep her priorities straight, which meant that she shouldn’t miss not even a moment of the interrogation. She was the one Kyle wanted, and she was the one that was captured by the Remingtons. If anyone could read between the lines when it came to their enemies, it was her. Her and Tina, but unfortunately, Tina wouldn’t be up for it until she recovered from the attack.

The interrogation rooms were in the basement of the garage area of the compound. In some ways it didn’t make sense because if the prisoners escaped, they’d have an easy entrance to the getaway vehicle, but her father’s reasoning was that there was no point dragging them across their home to lock them up. That way, they were brought to the compound by car and descended to the basement floor with the elevator, which had a specially programmed keycard.

Sienna didn’t think her father kept many prisoners, but if he did, she’d never heard of any of them escaping. She’d only set foot in that area once, and even then, it was without permission. As a little kid, she liked exploring her big home, searching for all kinds of treasures, which eventually brought her to stealing the keycard, believing that it kept locked away the holy grail of treasures. Her memory about what she saw was a bit blurry, but she still had nightmares about the never-ending screams that echoed through the long and dark halls. She wasn’t keen on returning there, but since she had to, she was glad that the Carrington heirs were with her.

Xavier ran ahead to prepare the cameras and Aiden excused himself, muttering something about not wanting to ruin his clothes with the Remington’s blood. Sienna followed Jensen and Jaxon to the viewing area, making a quick stop at the kitchen to grab a couple of coffees.

Through the double glass mirror, she had a clear view of the guy in his early forties. His hands were safely secured behind his back and his feet chained up against the iron stool. At first glance, escape seemed impossible.

By the time the interrogation started, the viewing room was full of people, among them including Sienna, Jensen, Jaxon, Xavier, Mr. Carrington, and Mr. Lockwood. Sienna stood closest to the mirror, not wanting to miss a thing. Jensen and Jaxon surrounded her, their stable presence worth more than all the riches in the world.

After what felt like forever, but was only a couple of minutes, Aiden stepped into the room, closing the door with a loudbang. The sound startled the prisoner, waking him up from unconsciousness. His eyes darted around, trying to determine where he was. Aiden ignored him and set down the heavy bag on the table in front of him. The tools inside rattled loudly and menacingly, the sound causing the imagination to run wild.

Aiden’s face was a mask of cold evil and if Sienna hadn’t known better, she would’ve feared him. Right now, he was the stark opposite of the loving and smiling Aiden that she had gotten to know. The role he played now was one of the torturers, the Carrington heir who relished in getting his hands dirty.
