“What were you doing in my room?” Xavier asked, his voice low and deliberate.

Aiden and Jensen exchanged quick looks, their spines straightening as they sat taller. They weren’t sure what was going on but suspected it could take a bad turn. Sienna watched Jaxon, hoping that the next words coming out of his mouth wouldn’t fuck it all up.

“I’m just upset that you didn’t invite me to do it with you,” Jaxon said, seemingly honest. “I was never good at painting, but when I saw what you did with those rocks, I wished I could be a part of it too.”

Xavier looked at him for a moment, trying to determine whether his brother was making fun of him or not. Everyone’s eyes were on Xavier now, waiting to see how he’d take it.

“I’ve been looking for inspiration to start a new series,” Xavier said slowly, his eyes locked on Jaxon’s. “If you help me come up with something, I’ll show you how it’s done.”

It was like a tennis match. Jensen’s, Aiden’s, and Sienna’s eyes were darting from one side to the other as they watched the tense interaction.

“I’ve always liked dinosaurs. Maybe we could do our own little Jurassic Park,” Jaxon suggested.

Only after they talked for another five minutes about the rocks, Sienna felt herself relax. Jaxon might’ve been a jerk most of the time, but as it turned out, he was also a big kid who wanted to join in on the fun. Xavier was more than happy to tell him all about it and even started talking about the rest of his collections. Jensen and Aiden weren’t into any of that, but they also didn’t make fun of their brother.

Jensen and Aiden excused themselves, leaving the trio alone. Jaxon got so excited about the rock painting, that he managed to convince Xavier to bring them to the living room. They ended up searching for pictures of dinosaurs and doing their best to paint them on the empty rocks Xavier had.

Sienna’s drawing skills were abysmal, but she wasn’t discouraged because in her humble opinion, she did a better job than Jaxon, while Xavier’s were on a whole new level and incomparable to theirs.

It was one of the best ways to spend the evening and Sienna wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. She only wished that Jensen and Aiden would join them, but she couldn’t blame them for having no interest in it. It was an acquired taste after all.

Sienna fell asleep sandwiched between her heirs. Thanks to Aiden’s early rising, she was too tired to focus on how hard and sculptured their bodies were as they lay next to her in nothing but their underwear. All her brain registered was the heat they radiated and the feeling of safety in which they enveloped her. She drifted off content and with a smile on her face.

CHAPTER 7

“Riseandshine, sleepingbeauty,” Aiden whispered into Sienna’s ear, waking her up long before she was ready.

“Go away,” she growled back through gritted teeth and buried her head into the pillow.

“It’s time to train. You have five minutes to get up or I’ll douse you with icy water,” Aiden warned in a tone that told her he wasn’t kidding.

He moved away from their makeshift bed and even though a part of Sienna would love to see other heirs kicking Aiden’s ass for pouring a bucket of icy water on them too, she reminded herself that the training was her idea and so she pushed herself out of the comfortable bed instead.

Aiden handed her a pile of clothes and gave her another ten minutes, which she used to freshen up in the bathroom. Slightly more awake, she joined him in the living room, and let him guide her to the gym.

“Why do we have to do this so fucking early?” Sienna complained again but didn’t get any reply from Aiden. Instead, he put on the music and ordered her on the treadmill.

They went through the same set of exercises as the day before. Sienna suspected that she’d spend another day of training without doing the actual punching or kicking. She reminded herself that Aiden knew what he was doing and that she had to trust him completely.

It was around eight in the morning when Jaxon crashed their training session. Something bad must’ve happened because it was unlike him to be up at these hours. Aiden turned off the music and impatiently waited for Jaxon to catch a breath and update them. His face was pale and his eyes haunted. Sienna braced herself for the worst, even though she didn’t know what that could be.

“There was an attack,” Jaxon finally said in between breaths.

“Attack? Of what kind? Did anyone get hurt?” Aiden blurted out the questions that were also on Sienna’s mind. “For fuck’s sake, man, speak!”

“I don’t have the information. I just know that it’s urgent and we need to go to the war room,” Jaxon told them, and was already out the door before he even finished the last sentence.

Aiden and Sienna looked at each other, then pushed their bodies into motion as they ran after Jaxon, following him down the many halls and all the way to the war room. Jensen and Xavier already occupied their usual places, along with the Lockwoods as well as Mr. and Mrs. Carrington. Sienna allowed herself a short second to feel relief when she saw that they were all okay.

“Father,” Aiden said when they entered the room. “What happened?”

Mr. Carrington stood and gestured for the newcomers to calm down.

“There’s been an attack but no casualties,” he told them quickly, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to continue otherwise.

“Kyle?” Jensen named the person that was on everyone’s mind.

“Yes,” Mr. Carrington nodded. “There’s been an assassination attempt on Tina.”
