Not wanting to spend another minute on him, Sienna came to the driveway where Adrianna, Brian, Jaxon, Xavier, and Aiden waited for her. Xavier looked like he hadn’t slept in days while Aiden’s appearance was neat, albeit his posture hinted at being uncomfortable in a suit.

Forgetting herself, Sienna gave him a sympathetic smile and mouthed that he looked good. Aiden’s eyes lit up as a small smile appeared on his face too, making him look a lot five years younger. Sienna was glad his nose healed well. She’d hate to have a constant reminder of hurting him.

Adrianna was the first to approach her and pulled her into a hug. “I’ll see you soon. Good luck.”

Sienna returned the embrace, allowing herself to close her eyes, feeling safe and comfortable in her friend’s arms. “I already miss you.”

“Good morning, beautiful. I hope you’re ready to spend a few fabulous days with me. I can guarantee you that they’ll be far from boring,” Jaxon said with a wink, then leaned forward to give her a kiss on the cheek and whispered, “I’ll wait in the car.”

Brian opened the door for him, then closed it when Jaxon climbed in the car. He moved to the other side to open it for Sienna.

“Are you coming with us?” Sienna asked Xavier and Aiden, not wanting to say goodbye just yet. “Someone has to drive, yeah?”

Xavier looked from Sienna to the car and back, his composure weary. “I have work to do. I just wanted to see you off in person this time.”

Sienna pursed her lips. “Are you sure? I haven’t seen you in ages. Besides, you look like you could use a break. Promise me you’ll get some sleep while I’m gone.”

“There’s so much to do, I really can’t—”

“You have to,” Sienna insisted, interrupting him. “You need your mind sharp to notice the little details that might help her. I’m sure you have people you trust that can take over for a few hours while you get some rest.”

Xavier gave her a reluctant nod and forced a smile on his lips. “I can’t wait for this to be over. I miss hanging out with you.”

“Do you? Or do you miss having more time for your other hobbies?” Sienna teased.

Xavier chuckled. “That too. They’re a lot less stressful than that.”

“When all this is done, I want to create a set of my own characters too.”

Xavier’s eyes lit up, his exhaustion momentarily gone. “I’ll be happy to show you how.”

Sienna wrapped her arms around his broad shoulders. “You know that you smell like strawberry?”

“It’s my shampoo,” Xavier admitted, then lowered his voice, “It’s a kid’s one, but I like the smell.”

Sienna smiled and buried her head into his chest.

“I’ll see you soon,” he promised her. “Take care of yourself and keep your guard up. The world out there is dangerous, and the Remingtons have eyes and ears everywhere. The fact that we can’t see them making any moves doesn’t mean they’re standing still. They’re up to something, I just don’t know what. Not yet.”

“You’ll figure it out,” Sienna assured him. “Get some sleep now so you’ll be able to face the problem with a clear head.”

Xavier nodded, then joined Adrianna who hooked her arm through his. In a way, they looked like a happy couple, and a part of Sienna would like to see them together, although she knew that wouldn’t happen. Her friend had a crush on Jaxon, and if anyone could get her to commit, it was him. Sienna couldn’t imagine either of them settling down. They were both wild souls, yearning to be free.

Sienna nodded her thanks to Brian, who closed the door behind her before sitting next to Aiden in the front. Aiden drove them to their private airport but never left the car. His only gesture of goodbye was a small smile and a wave.

Sienna boarded the plane with a heavy heart and a guilty conscience. She didn’t understand what it was for, but she knew she didn’t like feeling this way. Lucky for her, she was a champion at ignoring her feelings.

Next stop – New York City.

CHAPTER 10

Siennareadthroughthefile about the Vang family that Jaxon prepared. Tyson and Lara had been married for thirty years. During that time, they had only one daughter, although there’d been old medical files showing that she had two miscarriages prior to giving birth to Miruna.

The Vang family owned a chain of prominent night clubs in the city that were known for more than just partying. Many deals were struck in the VIP areas, and even more secrets shared. Underground gambling and unrestricted drug use were part of the business, although funny enough, their customers weren’t allowed to take it out of the club. They were promised a high-quality product for a little add-on to their entry ticket, but they had to take it under strict supervision of the club.

The Vang’s strategy was frowned upon at the beginning, but after some time, it turned out to be a good idea because their customers got a good hit, medical support, and a low chance of overdosing. The business ran smoothly with the authorities keeping out of their way.

“Have you come to the part about their parties yet?” Jaxon asked, too eager to talk about the file to wait for Sienna to finish reading.
