Emyr’s face turned pale with beads of sweat forming at the edge of his hairline. His eyes twitched nervously, forcing him to blink a couple of times, making it even clearer how affected he was. A bird came down to take one of his fish, but he didn’t seem to notice, his nervous eyes locked on Sienna’s fiery ones.

“How do you know that?” he asked, sounding like a broken man.

“That doesn’t matter. What matters is what you’re going to do for me to make sure it stays between us?”

“Please,” he pleaded. “I have a family. Three young kids that need their father. Please be reasonable.”

“I am being reasonable, and I’m giving you a way to stay exactly where you are without anything changing. You can keep your job and your family. You belong to me now and the sooner you accept it, the better.”

“I can’t—”

“Then say goodbye not only to your career and your family, but to your life as well. Do you think Russians won’t want to shut you up, making sure that you take their secrets to the grave?”

The last of the strength in Emyr’s eyes got broken as he finally nodded. “I’ll do whatever you want.”

“I own you,” she told him, giving him a look that made it clear she wasn’t joking. When he nodded again, she planted a smile on her face, breaking the tension. “Enjoy your time with your family. I’ll be in touch soon.”

Sienna left without glancing back at Emyr, satisfied with the image of a defeated man that her mind conjured up. When she returned to the tent, Xavier and Brian approached her with angry looks on their faces.

“Where were you?”

“Are you fucking nuts?”

They talked over one another, clearly upset that she left without telling them. Sienna waited patiently for them to shut up before she replied.

“I’ve talked to Emyr. It’s all good, and we can go home now,” she said with a smug smile.

Xavier’s eyes widened. “What do you mean you talked to Emyr? Have you gone insane? Do you have any idea how bad the whole thing could’ve ended? What the fuck is wrong with you, Sienna?”

Sienna turned to the Carrington heir, giving him her full attention. She narrowed her eyes at him, ignoring the burning of her cheeks.

“Don’t you dare talk to me like that ever again. I’m not your guest-prisoner anymore, but your equal. I’m perfectly capable of taking care of business. Ask Jaxon if you don’t believe me,” she hissed at him, then pushed past him.

“Where are you going?” Brian called after her.

“Home!”

“We can’t. We have to stay the night,” Brian told her.

Sienna stopped in her tracks and turned back to him. “I’m not sleeping in a tent.”

“It’s late, and we should get some rest before we go on the long drive again,” Xavier replied instead of Brian. “Come, I’ll show you the tent, and you’ll see it’s not that bad.”

“I want to go home,” she said with a sad voice.

“Tomorrow at first light,” Xavier promised her and took her hand to bring her to the tent. “I can share the tent with Brian if you prefer to sleep alone.”

“No,” she said quickly, then explained, “I’d be too scared alone in the middle of nowhere.”

Xavier chuckled. “We’re not exactly in the middle of nowhere, but I know what you mean.”

He unzipped the tent, and she was pleasantly surprised to see that she wouldn’t need to sleep on the floor. They brought an air mattress and pillows.

“It doesn’t look too bad, does it?” Xavier asked, reading her mind.

“No,” she admitted.

A ghost of a smile played on his lips for the shortest of moments but disappeared before she could accuse him of gloating.
