Chapter 4

Harlow

I spotted Liam the second I turned the corner of the clubhouse to head to the back. I also noticed how he seemed to go out of his way to ignore me by giving me his shoulder. Instant regret that I shouldn't have come shot through me, and I almost turned around to leave. Would he approach me and tell me to leave like he had before? No, more likely he'd grab one of the club women and hurt me in that way. It was as if he knew that my weakness was seeing him with someone else, and he was using it against me. I raised my chin and sucked in a deep breath for courage, determined to have a good time even if it killed me.

"Harlow!"

I swung my head in the direction of Lulu's loud welcome, my smile genuine with my affection for her. Millie and JoJo were sitting with her at one of the tables, and I headed in their direction. The noise coming from the playground drew my gaze there, and a moment of sadness over the fact that I didn’t have any children spread through me.Yet.

"I'm so glad you decided to come," Lulu said brightly.

I restrained myself from rolling my eyes and glanced at JoJo. "She practically begged me." I winked and took a seat next to her.

"David didn't come with you?"

David had only ever attended one cookout at the clubhouse with me and had decided it wasn’t for him. But JoJo's tone indicated that she hadn't heard the news yet. "I guess it hasn't gotten around, but David and I are getting a divorce."

JoJo's mouth dropped with shock. "I hadn't heard that! I'm so sorry, honey!" She cast Lulu an accusing look that said she should have warned her.

I shook my head and smiled. "It's okay, really. David and I have been heading in that direction for a while now. We just don't want the same things." There was a lot more to it than that, but now wasn't the time to go into it.

"So it's amicable?"

I nodded.

"I'm glad to hear that," JoJo responded. "We should celebrate once you sign the papers."

Her comment brought on laughter from the others at the table. "It's not that kind of divorce," I explained. "David and I will always be friends. We've known each other too long."

"Well, that's good," Millie pipped in. "At least you won't end up onSnappedorID."

"Millie!"

She swung her head toward Lulu. "What? It could happen."

"May as well warn you now—once the guys hear that you're available, expect to be hit on."

"A lot!" Lulu added.

"Since when has being married stopped them?" Millie chuckled. "The men around here are whores."

My brows shot up, because that wasn’t something I’d expected to come out of her mouth.

"I'm talking about the single guys," she quickly clarified. "You don't have to worry about the married ones. They're good and pussy whipped." She gave a brief pause. "I should know, because I have one.”

“Better not let Loco hear you say that.”

We all laughed at Lulu’s playful warning.

“I don’t really see myself with a biker.” Despite my comment, my gaze drifted off to where I'd last seen Liam, only to find that he was gone. When I looked back at Lulu, her smug expression clearly seemed to be saying, "Oh really?” My lips twitched, but I refused to let her look guilt me into exposing the truth. "Or with any man at the moment." That, at least, was the truth.

"What about those babies you want?"
