We had simply settled into a comfortable routine with each other, and it worked.

On the other hand, Nia makes me want to be a changed man for her. I want to be a better man and person when I'm around her. I want to tame my demons and be everything that she deserves.

It’s crazy that my feelings for her are this strong in such a short time. It’s even crazier that I didn’t realize it, but Shep did. Shep, the eternal playboy and the only man who will never settle down and have kids.

He opened my eyes to the love that was standing right in front of me.

I’ve decided to take the battle to the war zone. Right back to the place where war was declared...her home.

I left Nigel behind today and opted to drive myself instead. He serves as my bodyguard and chauffeur. The last thing I want is to drag him into any potential drama, although he was hired for that. I respect him as more than an employee but as a friend. Most importantly, I don’t want him to see my heart breaking again if she throws me out on my ass.

I bristle inside as I recall her telling me I should leave that night. When I turned to look at her after she spoke, she wouldn’t even look at me. She stared at him for some strange reason, as if she didn’t see him daily.

I only appeased myself with how she pleaded with me on the night of the ball. I could tell that she never meant to hurt me.

“Goddamnit!” I yell, slamming my fist into the steering wheel, causing my horn to blow and startling an elderly couple strolling down the treelined street.

What did she mean? What did she want with me, and why enter my life when she was already committed to someone?

Those are only a few questions I hope to get answers to today. I turn the corner onto the next street and wait as a line of cars enters the parking garage.

I hope to park on the street because I doubt I’ll be long. It’s early spring, and it’s beautiful outside.

Although it’s a little after seven, it’s warm for early May.

I’m driving my Range Rover today rather than the Maybach. I’m not trying to hide or look inconspicuous, but I don’t want to bring extra attention to myself.

I’m already prepared to confront her husband if it calls for it. After all, I have nothing to apologize for, and I’m owed everything. I need answers and explanations.

I maneuver around the cars going into the parking garage, two cars behind a limo that’s double parked. The driver leaves the car and heads to the rear passenger side door.

I know that as soon as he moves, that will open a spot for me and the car directly in front of me.

I watch the driver smile broadly and tip his hat as a couple comes out of the building on my right, walking hand-in-hand to the chauffeured limo.

The man says something to the driver, and they both laugh. The man’s hand goes to the woman’s waist, pulling her against him as she smiles broadly at him.

His hand lowers briefly to her ass, and she says something, and he pulls it back up. The woman tips up on her toes and kisses the man. He smiles lovingly down at her just before she climbs into the car, followed by the man.

And as the chauffeur closes the door and the limo pulls away, I’m still sitting here.

Cars honk beside me, waiting for me to move now that the car in front of me has moved.

I can’t move because I’m stuck at this moment. My heart drops as the limo pulls away with my girl and her husband.

Now I know what it feels like to have your entire world turned upside down.

Yesenia truly looked happy. And no matter the answers I believe I deserve, I know she deserves her happiness more.
