I slap her ass. She giggles and snuggles against me. Her warmth is intoxicating, just like everything about her. I’m screwed if she ever finds out how much power she has over me. But that isn’t a concern right now. She’s much better behaved after a good spanking, seeming to like the punishment.

“You’re grumpy today. Actually, you’re always kind of grumpy,” Aurora says, peering up at me.

“Am not.”

She laughs. That laugh, if I’m not careful, it will do me in. “Yeah, you are.”

“I’ve a lot on my mind.” Like avenging my cousin and getting my law degree at the same time, but there is no need to worry Aurora with that. “Run the Dullahans for a few months and tell me it’s not stressful.”

“And you’re dramatic too.” She laughs. “Last I checked, you weren’t in charge of the Irish mob. Is it something that comes with age?”

Wow, I can’t say Aurora struck me as warm and caring when we hooked up last year, but there’s no shortage of insults with her. At least my ego won’t run unchecked.

“How old do you think I am, lass?”

“I don’t know, but you say lass, so you have to have been born a few hundred years ago.”

Oh, wow. We know nothing about each other. I squint at her. “How old are you?”

“I’m twenty.”

“Are you telling me you were nineteen when I took you home last year?”

“Yeah. Why? Are you like thirty?”

“No.” I scoff. Is she calling me an old man? “I’m twenty-eight.”

“What are you still doing in school?”

I groan. “Fuck, I’ve been in interrogation rooms with fewer questions. It’s my last year.”

Apparently, the grumpier I am, the more amused Aurora is. If I thought I understood women, I was wrong.

“Oh, you got held back.” Aurora sits up and pulls on her pants. “That explains it.”

“You realize I’ve killed men for lesser slights, right?”

She pulls on her shirt without bothering to track down her wayward bra. She fluffs up her hair and wipes away the mascara underneath her eyes before flashing me a confident smile.

“Well, that was fun. I’ll see you later.”

I fall back onto the floor and curse under my breath once she’s gone.

???

Later that night, I go to Theo’s club with Killian. I would have invited Aurora as the Dullahans’ newly minted leader, except I don’t think she would care to join us at a strip club. Then again, she did just fire an arrow at me and fuck me afterwards, so a strip club might be her thing.

The real issue is we know nothing about each other. To the point where I have no fucking clue whether Theo’s club is going to be a problem. If the Russians weren’t breathing down our necks, I’d whisk her away on a romantic vacation. Someplace with just the two of us where we can get to know each other.

Killian slaps my back. “What do you look so glum about, brother? Cheer the hell up. If Aurora’s got you down, there are plenty of women out there.”

The club appears less shabby at night in the darkness with the spotlights strategically lighting up the stages and masking the grime that covers every surface. In this light, the various stages that litter the open floor plan are bright islands of pleasure in a sea of depravity. If I didn’t know better, I’d think it’s a concert venue. Even the girls decked out in skimpy lingerie look more like high-class models than girls doing what they have to in order to make ends meet.

Theo guffaws. “I think that’s his problem. Heislooking around.”

“I fucking hate strip clubs.”

“Since when?” Killian protests.
