As he took a long puff of his cigar and blew out a vast, smokey cloud, he turned toward the back of the room but I could still see his expression from the side. A sinister smile edged on to his face. Tyler tilted his ear in the direction of a struggle on the other side of the warehouse. He began to thrash around once again.

Two men walked Ian into the room, harshly jerking him back and forth. His hands were bound behind his back, but his feet were free.

“Don’t fucking touch me,” Ian growled, his gaze on Tyler.

“Ian! Fuck! Let him go!” I jumped up but was heaved back down onto the chair.

Tyler struggled to free himself.

“Tyler?!” Ian shouted. “Fuck you, Alejandro!”

The men pushed Ian down onto the seat, securing his hands to the chair behind his back. I glanced at Luke and Nico, but they were nowhere to be found. Alejandro must’ve noticed as well because he panicked visibly, darting his eyes in every direction.

“Alfred! Carlo! Find the others!” he ordered the two men huddled near the barrel, smoking.

They sprinted through a nearby set of doors. Alejandro strolled to the middle of our three chairs, set up in a triangle. Ian glimpsed toward me, his eyes darting to my ankle. Briefly, I closed my eyes, bowing my head as I turned my attention back to Alejandro. I held one finger out next to my thigh.

One thing Ian taught me was to always have a backup weapon or two. In my haste to leave my home, I didn’t grab a second gun, but I grabbed a knife without thinking, sliding it into my sock. Silent communication among Ian and his men was always important. I learned why. One finger indicated a knife or other sharp weapon. Two indicated a gun.

“Are you ready to play, Chance?” Alejandro jeered, tightening his stare on me. “I certainly enjoyed playing with your girlfriend. She made my dickso hard.” He turned his back, looking at Tyler.

“A shame you had to go home that way too, then, isn’t it?!” I snapped.

“Chance,” Ian mumbled.

Alejandro spun on his heels, his mouth wide open with a grin. “Oh, but I didn’t.” He winked. “Did she not tell you about the fun we had behind your back?”

“Chance, Amber didn’t do anything.” Ian huffed. “Don’t let this prick get to you.”

He pivoted to Ian, backing toward Tyler. A laugh rumbled from the depths of his chest as he held his cigar over Tyler’s thigh, darting his eyes between us. He plunged the cigar toward his leg, halting just before pushing it to the skin.

“No!” Ian and I bellowed in unison.

“Oh, I’m sorry.” He scoffed, reaching for Tyler’s head with his other hand. “He should be able to see, too.”

He ripped the black hood off Tyler, revealing his battered face. I grimaced, sick to my stomach. The entire left side of his face was torn open, a significant amount of both old and fresh blood shrouded him. Ian muttered to himself. Duct tape covered both his eyes and mouth while he fought once again to rid himself of his bindings.

Alejandro placed his fingers on the side of Tyler’s eyes, pinching the corner of the tape, ripping it off in one motion, taking his eyebrows with it. Tyler groaned in agony. An X had been carved over both of his eyes.

Springing from my chair, I lunged for Alejandro but was apprehended by the men guarding me. “You’re a sick fuck! He didn’t do shit to you!”

Ian’s eyes widened, but he remained quiet.

Alejandro arched his brows. “Got him?”

I didn’t bother to turn around to know the men replied wordlessly.

“Good.”

Holding his cigar over Tyler’s leg once again, he pressed down on the top of his thigh. Tyler grunted, unable to move. He shivered violently.

“Why are you doing this to him?!” Ian yelled. “Let them go and just take me! This is bullshit! He’s a lawyer, and he’s an actor. What’s wrong with you!?”

Removing the cigar, he dropped it to the floor, stepping on it and crossed his arms. The smell of burning flesh soon filled the air. I felt nauseous.

“So glad you asked, Knight.” Squinting, he motioned for me to approach. “But we’ll get to that in just a second. Right now, I want to play some more.”

The men behind shoved me, causing me to stumble forward. Catching myself with my hands, I pushed myself up.
