“I nodded.”

“Baby, I can’t see you nod through the curtain.”

“My bad, I’m getting out now.”

When I emerged from the bathroom in the hospital gown I saw hanging on the back of the door, Ian, Luke, Tyler, and Jacob, were standing in the room. Ian had a brown designer duffle bag thrown over his shoulder. Holding the opening of the gown in the back, I walked sideways to the bed, perching delicately on the edge.

“I better go do a bit more damage control and talk to the police,” Jacob announced before turning to me. “Are you hurt at all?”

“I’m fine,” I tucked my legs under the thin white blanket, “just shaken up a bit. Have you guys heard anything?”

“I’m about to go find out.” Ian pushed off the small counter with the sink in the corner of the room. “We’ll be back.”

As they exited the room, Luke closed the door.

“How long was I in the shower?”

“A long time.” Chance stepped over, resting his palm on my shoulder, massaging it. “We’re going to be a while, baby. You should lay back and rest.”

Taking a deep breath, I obeyed. Chance was in one of his serious moods, and I knew better than to test him. He leaned over, pressing his lips to my forehead before sitting next to me on the bed. Lying on my side, I stretched my arm around him, draping my leg over his lap. He held my arm in his hands, circling my skin with his fingertips. Within no time, I drifted off to sleep when I heard Alejandro’s name.

“I’m going to murder that motherfucker,” Tyler hissed.

“It’s no secret I never liked him,” Chance’s voice sounded louder with my ear on his arm.

“Never trusted him,” Luke chimed in.

“Anyone know where the fuck he could be?” Nico inquired.

I wanted to listen to more but was too exhausted by that point. While worrying about the girls and the kids, I prayed they were okay. I hoped Roxy was okay. And I hoped Ian and Jacob got whatever results they wanted.

CONTROLLED

CHANCE

The following few days Ian’s men tried to hunt Alejandro, but he was nowhere to be found. We were all growing more confused by Alejandro’s plan. None of us could figure it out.

Roxy survived her injuries but had to receive a blood transfusion. Ian assigned security to stand guard outside her hospital room twenty-four hours a day as she recovered.

Amber and I visited her multiple times, but only under the supervision of our own bodyguards. Dragon hired three more, just in case. I wasn’t taking chances either.

Security had become even tighter at the club. Ian brought on special staff to blend in with the patrons. Amber wanted to continue to work, and Ian and I agreed reluctantly. Before she could return, he had his home, vehicles, and businesses swept for any unauthorized surveillance devices.

Laying low was hard for me, but right now it was important. Anything I did could put my girlfriend and friends in danger. As I got off the elevator at the club, I placed my phone to my ear.

Tobyn, hi. Do you have a moment?

Haven’t heard from you recently. He chuckled. Are you okay?

Doing much better, actually, thanks. I’m still needed back home, but I was going to ask if you wanted to take over directing the new project for me. I stopped just outside the double doors to Ian’s office.

Chance, he groaned.I’m so worried about you. Everyone here is worried about you.

I swear I’m fine. I’ll be back out there soon to fix my shit, but right now I just need your help with it, please.

I’ll have to change some things around. It’s my way or no way.
