I didn’t speak to him, but Amber told him goodbye in passing. I disregarded it even though Ian said not to speak to anyone. The moment we stepped outside, cameras flashed in our faces, and I understood what he’d just meant.

“What the fuck?” I muttered under my breath. “Where did all these people come from?”

Chance! Amber! Are you back together?!someone called out.

“Back up!” Dragon barked at the crowd. “Let them through!”

Chance, have you gotten anger management since your outburst?!another shouted.

“Oh my god, Chance!” Amber panicked.

Amber, will you ever move from dancing to porn?!a deep voice boomed over the crowd.

Yanking her in front of me, I guided her to the waiting limo, choosing to be smart and ignore the media. Dragon opened the door for us. I helped her slide in before I followed, closing the door. He hurried to the other side, getting in and locking us in.

Nico sat in between two other men with their backs against the privacy glass. Reaching back over his shoulder, he tapped the padded window three times. The car peeled away as the people continued to snap photos of us exiting the parking lot.

“Scary shit.” Nico snorted.

I stretched my arm around Amber, pulling her into my body. “Care to tell me what the hell is going on?”

“The people back there?”

“No, this shit.”

“Ian will inform you as needed because I truly know nothing right now, so I’m just as curious. We’re on the way to his house and he will be there after work.”

Exhaling, I rested my head back, trying to calm my nerves on the way to Brookline. Amber leaned her head into me. Hypnotized, I watched the lights passing over the moon roof.I’m so fucking done with this shit.

THE TEST

CHANCE

Amber and I entered the house, followed by Dragon and Nico. They left the moment they saw we were inside safely. Nico assured us he’d see us later once Ian talked to us. Jenna waddled down the stairs, giving us both a hug the moment she could reach us.

“Ian texted and said you’d be here soon.”

“He woke you?” Amber groaned.

“He did, but it’s okay. I’ll just lay on the sofa in the family room and wait for him to get here.”

“I’m going to go change,” Amber announced to no one as she took her bag from me.

“Do you want me to make you some tea or wine?” I asked.

“Tea, please?”

“Okay.”

While she disappeared upstairs, Jenna and I meandered into the kitchen. She leaned forward, propping her elbows on the island while I filled the kettle up with water. Her silence was deafening. As I turned the gas burner on, I felt her gaze burning a hole through my back.

“What, Jen?”

Silence. Spinning around, I chuckled, seeing her happiness. Leaning back on the counter, I folded my arms, staring at her in return. “Go on. Say it.”

“It’s just that I love seeing you guys back together.”
