“I know you do.” I rolled my eyes. “You’re the only person who might love us together as much as I do.”

“Just think about it.” She gripped her hip with one hand as she circled her swollen stomach with the other. “Did you ever think after my parents died that I’d ever be married with two kids? I mean so soon, I guess.”

“I did, actually.” I nestled my hands deep into my pockets, creasing my brow. “You’ve always been so family oriented and I’m glad to see you happy with your own now.” Grabbing a red coffee mug out of the cabinet, I placed it on the counter before opening the tea canister, digging out a bag of Earl Grey.

“You’re family oriented as well. We just never realize how much until we meet that person who we can see a future with. When I lost my parents, I wasn’t looking for a relationship. I didn’t want to feel the pain of having to lose another person that was close to me.”

“But you found love in a strip club, of all places,” I teased, trying to lighten the mood.

“Okay, buthewasn’t a stripper!” She let out a loud laugh.

“But you were.”

“Not for long. He got all jealous of me taking my clothes off for people.” She slid up onto one of the barstools. “Do you ever feel yourself getting jealous over Amber dancing for guys like that?”

Shaking my head, I shrugged as the kettle whistled loudly, echoing through the room. I took it off the burner, shut the heat off, and filled the mug with water. “Not anymore, because it’s just a job. At the end of the day, it’s about us.”

She nodded. “True.”

“The only time I’ve been jealous was over Alejandro.” I overly pronounced his name, rolling my R. “I was jealous of him because she thought about moving on with him after my stupid mistake and I knew he liked her.” I sighed. “Well, I don’t know what he likes or doesn’t, actually.”

“I just want the drama gone from our lives for a minute.” She winced, grabbing her stomach. “I understand Ian is who he is and I’m fine with that, obviously.”

“Well, maybe things can calm down a bit after this.” I hopped up on the counter, swinging my legs back and forth, pressing my palms into the edge.

“One can hope,” she half-joked, grabbing her stomach once again.

“Go lay down on the couch, immediately.” I pointed to the den, waving my hand. “Go. I’ll be right there. You’re clearly in pain.”

“Not in pain, just uncomfortable, and this is the last one. I swear. I’m done.” She waddled through the archway into the family room.

“Sureee.” I hopped off the counter, preparing Amber’s tea as she appeared in the door.

Lunging forward, she threw her arms around my neck. I pulled her against me. Standing on her toes, she pressed her lips to mine, then picked up the mug. “Thank you.”

Nodding, I matched her expression, following her into the den. The moment we stepped into the room, we froze. Jenna was stretched out on her side on the couch, asleep. Getting a throw blanket off the nearby loveseat, I draped it over her, tucking it around her body.

“She’s probably going to get hot,” Amber hissed.

“Why?”

“Pregnant women are always hot, I think.” She shrugged. “My sister was.”

Bending over, I pulled the blanket back.

SLAP!

“Shit!” I grabbed my cheek.

“Oh my God, Chance!” Jenna gasped loudly.

Amber cackled. “Oh wow!”

“I’m so sorry!” Jenna reached for my face.

“God woman, you’ve gotten stronger than the last time you attacked me when I woke you.” I moved my jaw back and forth to make sure it wasn’t broken.

She giggled. “I’m so freaking sorry.”
