“You mean your room?” I asked, breathing in his scent and trying to focus as a ravenous need filled me again. Good gods, this mating bond was no joke.

“I mean our room,” he corrected, nipping at my bottom lip. “You and me, and a very, very large sitting room with thick, soundproof walls.” He kissed me again, his tongue sweeping gently as he pulled me more tightly against him, “And Carnon at the other end, far away where he can’t hear us.”

“Does he already know?” I asked, wondering what my brother would think about us leaving the rooms we had occupied for five years.

Herne chuckled again. “He moved in last night. He helped me pick the space out a week ago.”

I pulled back, surprise and delight at the kindness and thoughtfulness of this male. At how he loved my brother, as much as he loved me.

“I love you,” I said, realizing that it somehow had yet to be said between us. “So much I think my heart might burst with it sometimes.”

He kissed me again, pouring all of his feeling and longing and desire and love into that kiss. “I love you,” he breathed. “With a thrilling, absolutely fucking terrifying intensity.”

I laughed and kissed him again, and it was another few long minutes until we heard the drums that we knew were calling us back. The celebration of a newly mated couple that would have already started outside the woods. Herne had probably arranged that in advance too, but they would have known by the roaring if he hadn’t.

We emerged, hand in hand, to cheers and whooping and drumbeats and music and food, and a ten year old boy throwing himself against us. Herne steadied us with a laugh, hugging Carnon back as he grinned up at us. I hoped to the gods he didn’t know what we had done, thankful that Herne would be the one who explained that to him when he was older.

“Are you mates now?” he asked, looking hopefully between us. “Can we tell her about the new house?”

“Yes and yes,” I laughed. “You can tell me everything.”

“Awesome,” he said, throwing his arms around Herne in an extra hug. Herne looked at me with raised brows, surprised and pleased by the affection.

And my heart soared as Carnon blessed our union with the best possible thing he could say. “Welcome to the family, Herne.”
