“Angels give us their blood and the transformation begins.”

“Does it hurt?”

“No, not at all.”

Her brow creased and another question came from her. “Why do you need a fated mate?”

Good, she wanted to know, which I took as a positive.

“Hybrids can last for centuries, but we’re not immortal until we discover our mate.”

She tapped her chin. “So there’s some kind of transformation I’m guessing.”

“Yes.”

“Why does it take a Hybrid and their mate to finally kill a demon? I don’t get that.”

This was one of the questions I’d been dreading. If she freaked out about this one, I didn’t know how I’d deal with it.

“It’s to do with the unbreakable bond and their love for each other. Imagine injecting a creature so evil with such goodness. It destroys them completely.”

She went quiet. I took her hand and feathered the inside of her wrist.

“Talk to me, Donna.”

“So… so this fated mate thing is a love match?”

“Yes, it is. And it’s so much more than that. It’s an unbreakable, eternal bond.”

Silence filled the air between us. I remained quiet, waiting for her to process what I’d told her.

“You know, I caught an expression Isabella and Lorenzo shared. It was so intense. I’d never seen such a look of passion.”

“It’s the bond.”

She yawned.

“It’s been a stressful time for you. Why don’t you get some sleep and we can talk some more tomorrow?”

“Good idea. Would it be okay if I had a look at that on my own?” She inclined her head to the book next to me.

“Sure, but if you get confused or need answers, call me.” I handed it to her.

I walked her to her bedroom door. She placed the book on the floor and leaned her back against the wall. Her eyes swept up my body until they landed on my face, eyes fixed on mine. My body went up in flames. She hadn’t said a word, but her body telegraphed her need.

“Kiss me.”The words were shy.

Her eyes went to my lips, and I lost it. I held her by the shoulders as her arms looped around my neck. Our lips met in a chaotic clash of lips and tongues. My body roared to life, fuelled further by the scent of her arousal. Her tongue duelled with mine, both lashing wildly against the other. Her moan when I pressed my erection against her belly brought a growl rumbling up my throat. After minutes of kissing, she pulled away.

“Oh, God. What the hell happened?”

I snickered.

“Stop it. I don’t mean the kiss. The… the pull. I’ve never been kissed like that.”

“Yeah, it was kind of intense. I’ve never been kissed like that either. Like I said, this is new for me too.”

A wicked glint crept into her eyes and a naughty smile formed on her lips.
