“I wish I’d been on a bike before. I didn’t know what I was missing out on.”

“Well, you picked the right guy to be your fated mate then.”

“Maybe that’s why the Fates chose us to be together, for our mutual love of bikes.”

I slowed down when we reached the headland. There was a fantastic viewpoint right out over the ocean. It was popular with tourists and locals alike. Luckily for us, there was only one car parked up. I came to a halt, hopped off, then held out my hand for Donna. She took her helmet off, eyes alive, and cheeks flushed with excitement.

“This is a stunning view over the water.”

“I know, right? One of my favourite places, and I’ve travelled all over the world.”

“Can we get to the beach from here?” She looked over towards the cliff top.

“There are some steps dead ahead. Do you want to go down to the sea?”

She nodded and practically dragged me towards the stairs.

I laughed. “Slow down. We have all the time in the world.”

We headed down the steps to the beach. There were a few people out walking dogs, and couples strolled hand-in-hand like us. I squeezed Donna’s hand a little tighter, my emotions filling me. She paused to study my face.

“You’ll think this is dumb, but I’ve dreamed about this for so long that I can’t believe I’ve finally found you.”

She wound her hands round my neck, eyes locked to mine. “Not dumb at all. When I lost all the people I cared about, I thought my life was over. We still have a long way to go in our relationship, but I’m starting to think I can heal… with you.”

Her eyes were shiny with tears, other emotions telegraphing how she felt about me. I pressed my lips to hers in a gentle kiss to express that I understood.

“So,” she said after we’d been walking along the shore for a little while. “What happened to cause the creation of Hybrids?”

My heart skipped a beat with her question and my mouth stretched into a wide smile. I was so happy she was confident enough to recommence asking questions.

“Demons have been a pain in Earth’s ass since the beginning of time. Always looking for ways to dominate supernatural species and humans who call this planet home.”

She came to a halt and tugged on my hand. “Are there other species living here apart from vampires and Hybrids?”

“Yes. You’d be surprised what walks among you undetected.”

“If I choose to mate fully with you, will I be able to see what they are?”

Even her saying the word ‘mate’ had my body burning for her.

“Absolutely.”

Donna chuckled. “I don’t think anything could surprise me after what’s happened over the past few days. Anyway, sorry I interrupted. You were saying about the demons and the world domination thing.”

“Nothing seemed able to defeat the demons for good. Vampires, witches, shifters, all sorts. You name it, none of those races could kill them.”

“But you can fight them off to a point, right?”

I nodded. “The angels intervened eventually. Clement, the head of their order, came to the vampires with a proposition. It was discovered that if vampire venom and angel blood were mixed, a demon could be defeated. But…”

“I knew there was a but coming.” She smiled.

“There was a rule. The Hybrids could only banish a demon completely if they killed it along with their mate. Only their combined blood and venom could destroy them.”

Donna stopped, her eyes narrowed as she looked out to sea.

After a while, she turned to face me. “But you can send one on its way if it was you on your own.”
