“Blake.” She gently touched his arm. “I didn’t want to upset you. I just want all three of you safe.”

“I know, it’s just complicated.”

She sighed and dropped the subject.

He knew his mother was right. Niev’s safety had to come first. He’d hoped to give her more time to decide what she wanted, but if the Skadu Pack were to start making advances on his territory she would be in danger. She could be attacked while driving into the territory or if she decided to stay at his cabin, she would be too far away to be safely protected in case anything happened. He didn’t want to push her into making a decision, but he needed to make a plan on how to protect her. She’d just started to accept him for who he was and started to have a good relationship with his family. He didn’t want to risk losing her by scaring her or pushing her too much.

As he walked outside, he couldn’t help but admire her. She looked stunning. Facing the sun, her eyes closed, her hair shimmered as the sun fell on it. She opened her eyes as she heard him come closer and smiled up at him. Sitting down next to her, he laid his arm around her shoulders.

“Would you like to stay here or go back to my cabin?”

She leaned against him and took his hand in hers, entangling their fingers. “Can I meet your wolf again? I really enjoyed cuddling with him.” She seemed a little ashamed and quickly added, “Not that I don’t enjoy being with you as a human. I really enjoy being around you too.”

Her desire to spend time with his wolf filled him with pride. It also felt relieving that she wasn’t afraid of who he was and even enjoyed both his wolf and human side. He couldn’t hold back a grin, falling for her more and more with each minute they spent together.

“Of course you can. Don’t ever feel like you need to be shy or ashamed of what you want.”

“It doesn’t bother you that I want to spend time with your wolf?”

“No, I’m glad you do.I was afraid you would be scared of him.”

“I think he’s amazing.”

He grinned as if he had won the lottery. “Thank you.”

“So, we will go back to your cabin?” Niev seemed over-joyed.

“Yes, we can go right away if you like.”

They both got up and walked to the house and into the kitchen where his mother was still busying herself. “Are you two leaving already?”

Blake nodded and his mother quickly pulled Niev into a tight hug. Niev seemed a little surprised at first but then her face changed. She beamed from ear to ear and reciprocated his mother’s hug.

“It was very nice meeting you Mayra. I really enjoyed lunch, but I would like to spend some time with Blake if that is okay with you?”

“Of course sweetheart. You two enjoy each other while it is just the two of you.” She let go of Niev and turned to him. “Take great care of her.” She got on her tiptoes and gave him a kiss on his cheek.

Blake took Niev’s hand and led her down the hallway to the front door. As they passed the double doors to the office Niev stopped.

“Do you think it’s okay for me to say goodbye? I feel weird just leaving his home without saying anything to him.”

“Of course.”

He loved how considerate she was and how much she tried to be a good daughter-in-law. He was glad that she’d overcome the fear she’d had for them just twenty-four hours ago. He knocked on the doors and opened them to see his father sitting behind his desk overlooking a stack of papers. Bill was hidden in the corner sitting in a large armchair reading through another stack of papers in his hands.

A little timid, Niev stepped into the office. “I just wanted to say goodbye before leaving.”

His father’s face lit up and he quickly came around the desk and embraced Niev in a hug. “It was an honor to meet you. Please always feel welcome to come by at anytime.”

“Thank you, it was very nice meeting you and Mayra.” His father stepped back and Niev turned to Bill. “It was very nice seeing you again Bill. I never had the chance to thank you for keeping me company yesterday.”

Bill stood up and held his hand toward her. Niev took it and he gently squeezed it. “The pleasure was all mine.”

Niev gave both men another smile before turning around and leaving the office.

Before Blake could close the doors, his father gave him a serious look. “Be safe.”

Blake nodded, closed the doors, and followed Niev outside the house.
