“I know him more than I knew you and you turned out to be alright.”

He laughed sarcastically. “I’m brilliant, picture perfect,” he replied with his usual cockiness. “Again, you barely know him.”

“It feels right though.” She didn’t want to tell him that she was pregnant, at least not yet. She wasn’t ready for his knocked-up jokes and why she should’ve dated girls.

“Yeah, until he siderails you again.”

“He needed time, that’s all. We talked things out. He opened up and explained everything.”

“Until he gets bored of you again.”

“Look I know you don’t like this, but I want to do this.”

“You’re so blind. He has you wrapped around his finger, and you don’t even see it.”

She looked down into her lap. “Nothing you’ll say will stop me from doing this.”

He stood up and looked down on her. “Fine do whatever the fuck you want. Don’t come crawling back to me after he treats you like shit and leaves you with nothing.”

“Jason…” She sighed, not wanting him to be mad. “Blake isn’t like that.”

He shrugged a shoulder. “As I said, don’t come crawling back to me with your sorry ass.”

“Jason please there’s no need to be mad.”

“There is! Because I care for you Niev. You’re gonna get hurt even after you already made the choice to leave him.” He groaned in frustration. “You left him knowing he could hurt you, but here you are with him again.”

It was so frustrating not being able to tell him what had changed, because so much had. Blake hadn’t wanted to hurt her, but he’d had no other choice. Everything in her life had changed. It felt as if she was a completely different person. It killed her being unable to tell Jason and ease his worry.

“You do you Niev, but leave me out of it,” he said and stormed out the door only to stop in his tracks, his eyes glued to her room. “Why the fuck are you touching her stuff?!”

Niev quickly jumped off the bed and walked into the hallway. “Jason…”

He interrupted her. “You’re moving out right now?”

She nodded.

“What? Why so fast?” Jason’s eyes suspiciously flickered from Niev to Blake, then back to Niev. “Is he making you do this? Is he forcing you to move?”

“No,Imade that decision.”

“You bastard!” Ignoring her, Jason turned to Blake, his voice full of rage. “First, you make her fall in love with you, then you break her heart, and now you brainwashed her into leaving everything she has worked so hard for?”

“Jason, Blake didn’t force anything on me.” Her voice was firm, yet she felt terrible. She was starting to regret not giving Jason a fair warning.

Jason ignored her and stepped into her room, closer to Blake. He was ready to fight. His muscles were tense, and his hands were clenched to fists. “She won’t go anywhere with you.”

Blake was completely relaxed and looked down at Jason who was a few inches shorter than him. “Niev has made her decision and you’re in no position to make her do anything nor to threaten me.” Blake’s muscles barely tensed up as he pushed Jason out of her room and back into the hallway. It seemed as if he was simply moving a pesky fly out of his way.

Jason retaliated, throwing his fist toward Blake’s jaw. Blake moved with ease, catching Jason’s fist midair with his large hand. It seemed effortless. Blake’s reflexes and strength surprised Niev. She was sure he had to hold some of his strength back to make sure not to hurt Jason.

“I don’t want to hurt you, Jason. No matter what you’re going to do, Niev is coming with me.” His voice was calm, but Niev could hear his alpha authority. “I’m not forcing her, and she can leave me at any time. She has made up her mind and I won’t stop her, nor will you be able to do so. I know it wasn’t an easy decision for her and I wish you, as her friend, hadn’t made this even harder on her.” Niev couldn’t help but admire how diplomatic Blake was, especially after Jason had just tried to hit him.

Jason was aggravated, but Niev could also see the hurt in his eyes. He looked at Niev with an expression she could read far too well: disappointment and betrayal. He stepped away from Blake, his whole body shaking in fury. He didn’t even look at her before he turned and left, slamming the front door behind him.

Shocked and hurt, Niev couldn’t move. She hadn’t wanted things to end like that. Jason was her only friend, and that was definitely not how she wanted her moving out to go. Blake came closer and leaned down, kissing her head, his arms wrapping around her shoulders.

“I’m sorry, beautiful.”
